U.Ok. Nurse Reinstated After Suspension for “Misgendering” Affected person

The United Kingdom’s transgender lobby suffered its second setback in days when a London hospital reinstated a nurse it had previously suspended for “misgendering” a patient.

Jennifer Melle, 40, was suspended with pay last year after she went public with her story following disciplinary action by the Epsom and St. Helier University Hospitals NHS (National Health Service) Trust.

Misgender Offender

According to Christian Concern, Melle, who is black, has worked at St. Helier Hospital for 12 years “with an unblemished record.” Unblemished, that is, until a “transgender” inmate patient was brought to the hospital in 2024. Melle and her supporters claim the patient was a convicted pedophile, though the Trust has not confirmed that publicly.

Melle told Fox News the patient “was agitated and was frightening other patients on the ward.” Furthermore:

During a clinical discussion with a doctor, Melle said that after she referred to the biological male patient as “Mr.” and “he,” the patient became angry and demanded she address him as a woman. Melle declined, saying that doing so would go against her Christian faith, but offered to use the patient’s name instead.

She said that the patient then used racial slurs and threatened her.

“Began to yell the ‘N word’ several times and lunged out … nearly headbutted me,” Melle said, adding the patient was restrained by prison guards.

Eventually, the patient calmed down and remained in the hospital overnight.

The next morning, Melle learned that the patient had filed a complaint about her “misgendering” him.

Christian Concern reported:

Despite being the victim, Jennifer received a first written warning in October 2024 and was referred to the [Nursing and Midwifery Council] as “a potential risk” for not using the patient’s preferred identity. The Trust didn’t apologize for the abuse she endured and continued to treat her as the offender.

Suspended With Sway

As have other nurses who have suffered at the hands of the trans-happy NHS, Melle took her case to the media. Last spring, shortly after her story became public, Melle was “suspended, escorted from the premises, and banned from returning,” wrote Christian Concern.

Officially, Melle was suspended not over the patient’s complaint but over a “data breach” for publicly describing the patient’s “physical appearance, diagnosis and treatment,” she told Fox News. That may be, however, because Trust policy at the time did not deem “misgendering” an offense worthy of discipline. Indeed, considering the powers-that-be felt the need to make it an official offense while Melle was being investigated, it is hard to view the “data breach” charge as anything other than a pretext to punish her for violating the Trust’s pro-trans religion — and for embarrassing the Trust publicly.

The Trust, after all, could not have been pleased with what Christian Concern described as Melle’s “widespread public support.”

On top of that, politicians from multiple parties — the only people the NHS really has to fear — came to Melle’s defense. According to Christan Concern:

This latest hearing follows the cancellation of a previous internal disciplinary hearing in December 2025, at which Jennifer could have been dismissed. That hearing was withdrawn following political intervention, including a public statement and letter from Claire Coutinho MP [Member of Parliament], warning that taking action against Jennifer would be a “grave injustice.”

Coutinho, a high-ranking member of the Conservative Party, also organized a petition urging the Trust not to fire Melle. In addition, she wrote a letter to Trust officials on Melle’s behalf that was signed by MPs from five different political parties.

Poor Reflection

The Royal College of Nursing (RCN), meanwhile, told Melle “to do ‘a reflection’ to ensure the incident did not happen again and refused to intervene and support her,” penned Christian Concern. This stands in sharp contrast to the RCN’s approach to a case brought by female nurses from Darlington Memorial Hospital who were forced to share a changing room with a “transgender” nurse who was clearly male. There, the RCN demanded their Trust “provide single sex changing rooms without delay.”

The Darlington nurses filed a complaint with an employment tribunal, which ruled January 14 that the Trust’s policy was illegal.

Nurse Back to Health

Less than a week later, the Epsom and St. Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust reinstated Melle, finding that her alleged data breach had not, in fact, led to anyone’s identifying the hostile patient.

“Following an investigation into a breach of patient confidentiality, we are pleased that a member of staff who was previously suspended on full pay is being reinstated to clinical duties,” a Trust spokesperson told Fox News. “Racial abuse of our staff will never be tolerated, and we are sorry that she had this experience.”

Melle rejoiced at the outcome of the investigation, saying:

I am deeply relieved and grateful to hear that Epsom and St. Helier Hospital has confirmed it will take no further action against me. This has been an incredibly long and painful journey, and today I want to give thanks, first and foremost, to Jesus, who has sustained me every step of the way.

She also expressed her gratitude for the Christian Legal Centre, Christian Concern’s legal arm, and Coutinho.

Coutinho, in turn, offered “huge congratulations” to Christian Concern on X, calling Melle’s reinstatement “another fantastic result!”

Melle may have her job back, but she’s not done fighting for her rights. She, too, took her case to an employment tribunal, which is scheduled to hear it in April.
