Trump to Spend $45B Expanding Facilities for Illegal Migrant Detention
The Trump administration is planning to spend up to $45 billion over the next two years to expand its illegal-migrant detention program across the U.S.
The funds will be used to build more facilities and add services, according to the proposal request.
The New York Times reported that the Department of Homeland Security’s Immigration and Customs Enforcement made the requests.
It asks for proposals from contractors for such items and services as new detention facilities, transportation, and security guards, Just The News reports.
While ICE does not have the budget to fulfill all the requests, if adequately funded, the spending would represent more than a sixfold increase in such expenditure.

The Times also reported that in the last fiscal year, DHS allocated about $3.4 billion for the entire custody operation, which ICE oversees.
Over the weekend, Senate Republicans approved a budget plan that would give ICE up to $175 billion for immigration efforts.
The news comes amid Trump’s ongoing deportation efforts.
Earlier this year, the United States Attorney’s Office for the Central District of California charged 128 illegal immigrants with illegally entering the country within the first two months of Trump’s term—more than Joe Biden did in four years.
“These charges promote respect for the immigration laws. The individuals charged over the past week include sex offenders, narcotics dealers, violent criminals, and others who pose a danger to the public.”
President Trump has managed a near-complete shutdown of border activity without the help of any new legislation, something Biden argued was needed to tackle the crisis.
