Democratic mayor of Newark, New Jersey, Ras Baraka, was arrested at an Immigration and Customs Enforcement facility in the city as President Donald Trump’s DHS intensifies its immigration crackdown.

On Friday, Baraka protested the opening of a new ICE detention center in Newark, claiming the operators did not acquire the necessary permits.

Alina Habba, Counselor to the President and interim U.S. Attorney for the District of New Jersey, confirmed Baraka was warned multiple times to leave the facility, known as Delaney Hall.

“The Mayor of Newark, Ras Baraka, committed trespass and ignored multiple warnings from Homeland Security Investigations to remove himself from the ICE detention center in Newark, New Jersey this afternoon,” Habba wrote on the social media platform X.

“He has willingly chosen to disregard the law. That will not stand in this state. He has been taken into custody. NO ONE IS ABOVE THE LAW.”

WNJN reporter Amanda Lee added on X that Baraka was accompanying members of Congress for the visit to the facility.

She said the lawmakers were “shoved after trying to include Baraka in conversations after he gained entry through the gate.”

The arrest comes as Trump administration officials continue to warn that local and state authorities obstructing federal immigration enforcement will be held accountable.

Last month, Milwaukee County Judge Hannah Dugan was arrested for allegedly aiding an illegal alien in evading federal authorities.

FBI Director Kash Patel stated, “we believe Judge Dugan intentionally misdirected federal agents away from the subject to be arrested in her courthouse, Eduardo Flores Ruiz, allowing the subject — an illegal alien — to evade arrest.”

As reported previously, the administration also arrested a former New Mexico judge and his wife for allegedly harboring a member of the Tren de Aragua gang in their home.

Former Doña Ana County Magistrate Judge Joel Cano and his wife, Nancy Cano, were taken into custody after Immigration and Customs Enforcement raided their home.

The illegal alien reportedly entered the U.S. via Eagle Pass, Texas, before being released under President Biden’s “catch and release” policy, which allows migrants and asylum seekers to be released with court dates and transported into the interior of the United States.

Border Czar Tom Homan has also issued warnings to officials undermining ICE’s efforts.

“Police commissioner of Boston, you said you’d double down on not helping the law enforcement officers of ICE, I’m coming to Boston and I’m bringing hell with me,” Homan said in February.

“I looked at the numbers this morning, I stopped counting at nine, nine child rapists that were in jail in Massachusetts but rather than honoring an ICE retainer, released back onto the street,” he added.

“You’re not a police commissioner. Take that badge off your chest, put it in a desk drawer because you became a politician. You forgot what it’s like to be a cop,” Homan concluded.
