SitRep — The United States has moved a large amount of military force into the Caribbean, off the shores of Venezuela and Colombia. The U.S. military, assisted by the CIA in targeting, has used airpower to strike approximately a dozen small boats the National Command Authority declared were carrying narcotics to U.S. shores to distribute. Craft from Colombia and Venezuela have been hit.
The Trump administration has called out President Maduro of Venezuela, as well as President Petro of Colombia as narco traffickers.
Far be it from me to question the intelligence the President of the United States receives. However, there are concerns the agenda against these two nations is not to combat drug-running; although, that is certainly a national security issue for the United States.
The build-up and direct action could be a result of Trump administration knowledge over stolen elections in the U.S. that were perpetrated with voting machine technology from Venezuela — Smartmatic. Both leaders are left-leaning and this could be an attempt to re-establish the Monroe Doctrine against communist influence from China and elsewhere in Latin America.
However, the old adage that ‘the enemy gets to shoot back’ is applicable here.
In short, nationalism is not limited to the United States.
Sources from Colombia tell a disturbing narrative of the attacks and the rhetoric from Washington fomenting anti-US fervor in the area and unifying the two countries in their confrontation with Trump.
The Colombians and Venezuelans have well-trained ground forces, long experienced in guerrilla warfare in the mountainous and jungle regions of the mountain chain that connects the two nations.
Any direct action in Venezuela would also include urban warfare, not an easy fight in any conditions.
I was reminded by a source that Petro in Colombia was democratically elected and is popular. No one in the region believes these two leaders run a drug cartel. The people believe this is an excuse for some other unknown purpose — be it oil, or other natural resource plays — and to start a war.
Petro has vocally swayed his people for popular support in recent speeches, saying he is for humanity, for life, not death. He said he has not joined BRICs, but now may. He declared the economy is not beholden to the U.S. and Colombia has other options. He accused the U.S. of gunboat diplomacy.
There are also concerns of Israeli influence behind the policy; to what end is not clear.
As in Ukraine, you don’t have to agree with President Putin, but you must understand him to have an effective policy with the Russian Federation.
The same is true in Latin America. It is unclear if the Trump administration has this insight, said sources in the region to CDM.
