The Trump Effect Exposes Ontario Premier Doug Ford's Weakness
Why Doug Ford’s Progressive-Conservatives Harass Truckers and Continue to Ignore Threats Within Canada
Beginning the week of January 21, 2025, the Canadian trucking industry was thrown into chaos in Ontario, Canada. There was an unexplained and unprecedented exponential increase in safety enforcement, unlike anything previously seen in the trucking industry. The enforcement blitz appeared to be sparked by comments made by U.S. President Donald Trump, suggesting he would revisit a 25 percent tariff on all goods entering the United States from Canada.
Trump’s remarks sparked a reactionary wave of enforcement in Canada against Canadian truckers initiated by the Ontario Ministry of Transportation. This allegedly came directly from Ontario Premier Doug Ford—head of a government, much like the previous Liberal government, that has long ignored the growing issues of organized crime, drug and human trafficking, and money laundering for terrorist groups operating in Canada. This is the same Doug Ford who sought a court injunction against Freedom Convoy donations, which remain under an Ontario Superior Court injunction to this day, thanks to Ford’s actions.
Doug Ford’s Two-Faced Approach
When President Trump publicly suggested revisiting his 25 percent tariff idea, Premier Doug Ford’s public strategy was to respond to Trump’s comments with threats. Yes, you read that correctly—Ontario’s leadership chose to publicly attack President Donald Trump, a man notorious for seeking retribution against anyone who criticizes him personally. It is fascinating to see politicians blatantly reveal how little they understand about negotiation, particularly when they fail to grasp who holds the dominant negotiating position.
The reality is that 80 percent of Canada’s economy is dependent on the United States. They are in the driver’s seat, whether we like it or not. If our misguided politicians believe we can somehow dominate them, I suggest they study the Punic Wars—something I suspect none of our provincial representatives have even heard of.
Did Justin Trudeau’s Foolish . Cost Canada Its Sovereignty?
The combative strategy against Trump is almost as foolish as when Canada’s blackface-impersonating, part-time Prime Minister Justin Trudeau exposed a critical weakness during a meeting at Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago residence. When pressed about Canada’s vulnerabilities, Trudeau suggested that a 25 percent tariff would devastate Canada’s economy. Yes, you read that correctly—Justin Trudeau explicitly admitted to Donald Trump that a 25 percent tariff would cripple Canada.
Only a complete and utter fool would reveal their greatest weakness to someone they would inevitably need to negotiate with. Unsurprisingly, Trump reportedly responded, “Then you should become our 51st state,” and he has been more emboldened on the issue ever since. Bravo, Justin.
President Trump reaffirmed his intent to increase tariffs on Canada until the border is secure—a euphemism for tackling Canada’s crises of drug smuggling, human trafficking, political entryism by terrorist organizations, and money laundering by their proxies.
While Doug Ford has attempted to brand himself as a strong Progressive Conservative leader, his policies are arguably more left-wing than those of his Liberal predecessor, Kathleen Wynne. His government, equally reactionary and in a state of panic, has deployed Ministry of Transportation (MTO) officers from across Ontario to intercept trucks at the border for so-called “safety inspections” before they get remotely close to crossing.
According to sources within the MTO, these inspections are merely a pretext for searching for drugs, weapons, and evidence of human trafficking. This reaction appears to stem from fears that Canada’s lax approach to border security could give the Trump administration additional justification for imposing tariffs on Canada.
This raises an important question:s Who is truly to blame for the increased inspections and the resulting harassment of truckers?
Who Is to Blame for the Current Chaos in Canada?
- Is it the fault of the Trump administration, responding to the rise in smuggling across the border?
- Is it the fault of long-standing, complacent political leadership that has turned a blind eye—or, in some cases, been complicit—in organized crime, drug smuggling, and money laundering for terrorist organizations operating within Canada?
- Is it the fault of extremist groups that have exploited the naivety of Canadians and used political entryism to gain influence within Canada’s federal, provincial, and municipal governments?
Who is the Minister in Charge?
In an ironic twist, according to a 2019 article in The Times of India a publication supportive of India’s president Narendra Modi, a Canadian human rights organization The Indo-Canadian Harmony Forum (ICHF), rescinded an invitation to then Associate Minister to the Solicitor General Prabmeet Sarkaria to it’s 2019 ICHF annual Gala. “We have recently noticed that your activities regarding the unfortunate anti-Sikh riots in 1984 in Delhi, India, are not in harmony with the position of ICHF and the Indo-Canadian community at large. In light of the above, we, the ICHF Board of Directors, are constrained to withdraw the invitation extended to you earlier to attend the ICHF Annual Award and Gala Night on July 12, 2019.” said a letter from ICHF board members.
You’re probably wondering how is this relevant to President Trump’s tariff threats?
In a strange twist of fate, the current Minister of Transportation in Doug Ford’s Ontario Progressive-Conservative government tasked with clamping down on trafficking, drug smuggling and terrorism funding is MP Prabmeet Sarkaria the same person who had their invitation rescinded by the ICHF for views and comments about India and according to the article levied accusation of genocide against India. They are common blood libels frequently used to smear India by members of the Khalistani movement.
- Why did Doug Ford appoint this person to be in charge of transportation security in Ontario? Is he trying to anger India more than Trudeau did?
- Does the Trump administration know that the Khalistani movement was directly tied to the Air India bombing—Canada’s only aviation bombing—which tragically claimed the lives of 329 innocent civilians?
To be clear, I am not suggesting that MP Prabmeet Sarkaria is in any way responsible for, or has any links to Air India or any kind of violence. After all, the tragedy happened three years before the Minister of Transportation was born. I am suggesting it would be an inspiring gesture for people like MP Prabmeet Sarkaria to show strength and focus on supporting legislation like the Justice for Victims of Terrorism Act that resulted from the Air India tragedy, instead of sectarianism in a foreign country as highlighted in the Time of India article.
The tangled web in which Canadian politicians find themselves is the result of weak leadership from Doug Ford, Justin Trudeau, and other officials, who have contributed to Canada being identified as a security risk. Canada lacks leadership that focuses on what is best for Canada, the Province of Ontario, and more broadly the Western world. Instead, our political class obsesses over which representatives they can control, and their repeated strategy when confronted with security risks is reminiscent of Chamberlain’s appeasement of a certain mid-century Austrian painter with a tacky mustache and Muslim Brotherhood-like obsession with Jews.
The 51st State Meme
Adding to American concerns over Canada’s lax approach to critical issues, Donald Trump has repeatedly expressed his desire to bring Canada into closer integration with the United States. He has referred to Justin Trudeau as the “Governor of Canada” and frequently suggested that Canada should become the 51st state. These remarks come against the backdrop of Canada’s prolonged economic and political decline over the past few decades, as well as its growing reputation as a national security liability.
Perhaps President Trump and his administration, fully aware of Canada’s security challenges, believe the only solution is to force Canada to join the United States, placing it under U.S. presidential and congressional control. Could it be that decades of allegedly incompetent, corrupt, and weak political leadership in Canada may ultimately cost the nation its sovereignty?
Maybe it’s time for Canadians to wake up, abandon their obsession with extreme woke ideologies and the corrupt uni-party structure, and start taking security and terrorism concerns seriously to focus on preserving the nation—or start practicing the U.S. Pledge of Allegiance.
