We wrote recently at CDM that the Venezuelan/Colombian drug strikes are causing backlash amongst the populations of the region against the United States, reminiscent of the banana wars of the early 20th century. The societal and historical connections between the two nations are strong and deep.
Reports are emanating from the region that Trump may soon attack targets on land in an attempt to change the regime of Nicholas Maduro, after The White House rebuffed overtures from Maduro for American corporate access to the massive oil and gas resources of Caracas.
The Trump administration is considering airstrikes on military facilities in Venezuela linked to drug smuggling. U.S. officials state that such action would signal to Nicolás Maduro that he should relinquish power, writes Disclose TV.
While no final decision has been made on land strikes, the focus of the air campaign would be on targets involving drug gangs and the Maduro regime. Trump and his team aim to disrupt Maduro’s influence, as the military has already targeted boats suspected of drug trafficking in the Caribbean and eastern Pacific.
It is highly likely that American armed forces personnel could be killed or wounded in such a conflict.
Here are some facts:
- The Venezuelan and Colombian militaries are robust and well-training in mountain and urban warfare, with a long history of fighting insurgents in the area.
- Air defense weapons will be delivered from China and Russia, and could threaten American aircrews, especially any rotary-wing/SOF aircraft deployed, which have been sighted in-theater already training. Russia now has vast experience targeting American systems and will export this knowledge
- The main drug problem is not coming from Venezuela or Colombia but from Mexico, enabled by China — fentanyl — which has killed hundreds of thousands of Americans
Tucker Carlson reiterated many of these points on his show recently.
How about deploying the funds being spent on this on-going operation to protecting America’s borders, and stopping the flow of deadly chemical warfare agents from Mexico at the border? This will save many more lives than halting boats from LATAM, or blowing up airfields.
We believe there is another agenda behind this current low-intensity conflict besides the drug war.
Someone wants the resources of northern LATAM.
Why be deceitful as to the agenda — stopping drugs? Why not just tell the American people we want to force another regime change in LATAM, and let the debate begin?
This is not what we voted for.
