Taylor Swift 'Clicks' With Ellen Pompeo: 'Wants Her in Her World' (EXCL)
Taylor Swift and Ellen Pompeo may seem like an unlikely duo, but a source exclusively tells Life & Style the Grey’s Anatomy star and the pop powerhouse are becoming fast friends bonding over mutual admiration and a passion for doing good and Ellen’s now looking like the next likely candidate to join Taylor’s squad.
“Ellen adores Taylor and the feeling is mutual,” the insider says. “They’re obviously very far apart in age and have very different lifestyles, but that has never gotten in the way of a friendship for Taylor before.”
The source notes the “Cruel Summer” singer, 35, values the wisdom of her older friends just as much as the energy of her younger ones. “Just look how close she is to Hugh Jackman — that just goes to show that age isn’t really something Taylor pays much mind to. If she likes someone and clicks with them, she wants them in her world.”
It’s not a total surprise Taylor would hit it off with the Good American Family star, 55, though. She’s been a huge fan of Grey’s Anatomy and named one of her Scottish Fold cats “Meredith Grey” after the series’ lead played by Ellen. Even 10 years ago the two shared a friendly rapport, with the actress appearing in Tay’s star-studded “Bad Blood” music video, but now a decade later, their relationship is growing deeper and more personal.
“She’s a huge Grey’s Anatomy fan so she was giddy the first time she met Ellen,” the insider shares, “but they’ve now moved past that and have become comfortable peers.”
Both women have had hugely successful careers so far, with Ellen starring full-time on the Emmy-winning series for 19 seasons and only recently stepping back from the role to focus more on her advocacy work and producing and the “Shake It Off” singer spending the last year breaking cultural ground with her record-smashing Eras tour, which has become one of the highest-earning tours in history.
While they inhabit fairly different corners of the entertainment world, both have used their fame and platforms to support causes including LGBTQ+ rights, voter registration and access to healthcare.
“There’s a huge mutual respect between them and the next time Taylor is in L.A. they’re planning to meet up,” the source continues. “Ellen likely won’t be coming out partying with Taylor and the gang, but dinner dates with her husband Chris [Ivery] and Travis [Kelce] certainly seem plausible.”
While Taylor’s squad is famous for boasting high-profile artists and socialites like Selena Gomez, Gigi Hadid and Cara Delevingne, it’s apparent she’s open to welcoming mentors and collaborators from all generations. Her longtime friendship with Jack Antonoff is rooted in creative partnership and she called Carole King “one of the most important people in my life” during her Rock and Roll Hall of Fame speech in 2021.
“Ellen’s got so much experience in Hollywood and has really broken down barriers,” says the source. “So no doubt Taylor will want to pick her brain on that, and who knows? They may end up producing something together.”
