SZA Regrets Getting BBL Surgery: Reason She's 'So Mad'
Booty regret? SZA admitted she’s furious with herself after undergoing a Brazilian butt lift procedure to enhance her backside.
“I’m so mad I did that s–t,” the “Snooze” singer, 35, told British Vogue in an interview published on Thursday, November 14. “I gained all this weight from being immobile while recovering and trying to preserve the fat. It was just so stupid.”
A BBL takes fat from other parts of the body and injects it into the butt and hips. The recovery time takes up to 3 months and sitting is not recommended for the first eight weeks as to not put pressure on one’s butt. Laying on one’s side or stomach is recommended by doctors during the recovery period.
The songstress — real name Solána Imani Rowe — said around 2022 she began hitting the gym, but she didn’t develop the curvy glute muscles she hoped for. As a result, she turned to plastic surgery.
SZA has now taken a “what’s done is done” approach after having her BBL procedure.
“But who gives a f–k? You got a BBL, you realize you didn’t need the s–t. It doesn’t matter. I’ll do a whole bunch more s–t just like it if I want to before I’m f–king dead because this body is temporary,” she told the publication.
“It just wasn’t super necessary – I have other s–t that I need to work on about myself … I need to get my f–king mental health together … Not to say you can’t do those things simultaneously, just, for me, I realize wherever you go, there you’ll be,” SZA continued.
Despite her regrets, the “Good Days” artist is happy with the results.
“But I love my butt. Don’t get me wrong. My booty look nice. And I’m grateful that it looks pretty much … I don’t know, sometimes natural, but I don’t even care. It’s something that I wanted. I’m enjoying it. I love shaking it,” she explained.
SZA’s interview marked the first time she openly confessed to getting a BBL. She hinted about it in several songs on her 2022 sophomore album S.O.S.
On the album’s title track, she sang, “So classic, that ass so fat, it look natural, it’s not.” The tune “Conceited” included the lyrics, “I just got my body done, ain’t got no guilt about it / I just heard your opinion, I could’ve did without it.”
Following the LP’s release, SZA’s fans took to social media, believing she revealed she got a BBL after noticing how her backside had grown.
“‘That ass so fat, it looks natural, it’s not.’ SZA REALLY CONFIRMED THOSE BBL ALLEGATIONS JUST LIKE THAT!!?” one Twitter user wrote. Another said, “I love how SZA basically said my butt looks real cause I’m thick but it’s not.” A third added, “Y’all really thought SZA’s bbl was natural? That’s what you call good plastic surgery.”
SZA had only previously spoken out about plastic surgery in 2018 when she denied getting a nose job.
“Everyone thinks I have a new nose!” she told Teen Vogue in October 2018. “I don’t really care about my nose, it’s not a big deal, but what I didn’t realize is when I was heavier, my entire face changed. I was heavier for three years and then my nose adjusted to that. I spent most of my life being slim before then, being in sports. And then I kept growing and I think my nose adjusted to my new face. You can look at all my baby pictures when I’m younger and my nose looks like this, but five years ago when I came out as a singer, I was heavier, and my nose didn’t look like that.”
