A suspect has been detained by Las Vegas police in connection with the fatal drive-by shooting of Tupac Shakur in 1996. This is a long-awaited development in a case that has baffled detectives and captivated the public ever since the hip-hop icon was shot and killed on the Las Vegas Strip 27 years ago.

According to two officials with firsthand knowledge of the arrest, Duane “Keffe D” Davis was taken into custody early on Friday morning, though the specific charge or charges were not immediately known. Prior to an anticipated indictment later on Friday, they were not permitted to make any public statements.

In interviews and in his 2019 tell-all biography, “Compton Street Legend,” Davis, who has long been known to detectives, acknowledged that he was in the Cadillac when gunfire broke out during the September 1996 drive-by shooting. Shakur was shot and killed when he was 25.
