Sofia Vergara 'Griselda' Emmy Snub 'All Boils Down to Jealousy' (EXCL)

Sofía Vergara is putting a brave face over her surprise Emmys loss to Jodie Foster, but a top-level T.V. industry source, who has worked with the actress on some of her biggest successes, exclusively tells Life & Style she and her entire team are devastated and saying the snub is dragging down her self esteem.

“I voted for Sofía and almost everybody I know in the T.V. business who saw Griselda did as well. The show was simply outstanding,” the source says.

“And when you compare the viewership numbers and even the critics’ reviews, Griselda pretty much blew True Detective: Night Country out of the water. Sofía has a right to feel screwed over, especially after enduring so many snubs during her Modern Family heyday.”

Sofía, 52, was nominated for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie for her role of Griselda Blanco in Netflix’s Griselda, but ended up going home empty handed that night.

After the award was given to Jodie Foster, 61, who won for her performance in the fourth True Detective season, the Modern Family, Sofía posted a video to Instagram while heading backstage, joking, “Me lo robaron … por quinta vez,” which translates to “They stole it from me … for the fifth time.”

The statement referenced the Colombian native losing out on four nominations for her role of Gloria Delgado-Pritchett in Modern Family from 2010 to 2013.

“Nobody understands why she lost this time around, and nobody thinks they were seeing Jodie’s career-best work in True Detective,” the source continues. “It was solid and it was Emmy worthy, but Griselda was an all-timer and Sofía and her team, and of course Netflix, did everything to pave the way for a win.”

The source makes the point that Sofía joking around about her fifth snub is in no way meant to throw shade at Jodie for her work on True Detective.

“It just didn’t take and even though Sofía will never say this publicly, it all boils down to jealousy. Especially over the last fifteen years Sofía has gotten incredibly rich, she still looks like she’s 35, and she can pretty much get anything made that she wants right now thanks to her extreme level of business savvy.”

“That kind of elevated status brings out the haters and it effectively makes Jodie look like a scrappy underdog, even though she has had a longer and bigger career than Sofía.”

Still, Sofía had a great time at the Netflix Emmys Afterparty, posting pictures with America’s Got Talent costar Heidi Klum. “I didn’t get an Emmy but I got a hamburger,” the actress captioned a video of her at the event.

The insider continues: “The silver lining here is that Netflix is absolutely going to figure out another shot at the gold for her, and she has all the motivation she needs to turn in another exceptional performance.”

“I hope that’s enough to finally get her the Best Actress Emmy she’s been chasing now for a decade and a half with nothing to show for it!”
