Pictures Fired: Gunmen Hit US Consulate in Toronto in ‘Fully Unacceptable Assault’

0

Toronto city police said that shots were fired by two unknown attackers early Tuesday and that, although no one was injured, the attack was “completely unacceptable.”

It occurred in the early hours of the morning:

At a late morning news conference, Toronto Police said they were looking for two men in a white Honda CR-V. Investigators believe the men stopped in front of the consulate at around 4:30 a.m. and fired shots from a handgun at the building.

Police also announced that security would be stepped up at both the US and Israeli consulates in the city as well as at embassies in the capital, Ottawa, following a series of attacks that included shootings targeting three synagogues in the Greater Toronto Area over the past week.

The attack comes as the U.S. is on high alert for terror attacks as we conduct Operation Epic Fury in Iran.

Public Safety Minister Gary Anandasangaree said that Canada will not bow down to intimidation:

We are glad to see that no one was hurt, and we are grateful for the quick response of @TorontoPolice at the scene.

We encourage anyone with any information to reach out as @TorontoPolice and @rcmpgrcpolice continue their investigation.

A heavy police presence was seen in the area:

Although U.S.-Canada relations have been fraught as of late over issues like tariffs and trade pacts, Ontario Prime Minister Doug Ford declared his support for his neighbor to the south, saying it’s “an absolutely unacceptable act of violence and intimidation aimed at our American friends and neighbors.”

He continued:

“I expect that police at all levels will bring every resource to bear to find the people who did this,” Ford added. “Everyone at all levels of government and across Canada needs to make clear that there is zero tolerance for this sort of intimidating and dangerous behavior, and that we will do whatever it takes to prosecute and punish the people responsible to the fullest extent of the law.”

It’s far from the only violence directed at our overseas outposts recently:

Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) Chief Superintendent Chris Leather labeled the Toronto attack “a national security incident,” but authorities have not concluded yet whether it is terrorism.

Although no one was injured or killed, the situation could have ended up much worse because police believe there were people inside the heavily fortified building when the shots were fired.
