Senate Confirms Markwayne Mullin to Lead DHS – Journal Posts

The Senate on Monday confirmed Markwayne Mullin to serve as Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security, following his nomination by President Trump earlier this month to replace Kristi Noem.

Mullin was approved in a 54-45 vote, with Democratic Sens. John Fetterman and Martin Heinrich breaking with their party to support the confirmation. Heinrich said he considers Mullin a friend, pointing to legislation they’ve worked on together and describing him as a principled voice, adding that he is not someone easily pressured into changing his views.

The vote came with opposition from Rand Paul, who chairs the Senate panel overseeing DHS.
