(CNS News) – When asked why he thinks Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has seen a steep increase in encounters with people on the terrorist watchlist at the southwest border, Senator Rand Paul (R-Ky.) attributed the blame to the Biden administration’s signal “that they are supportive of open borders.”
At the Capitol on Sept. 21, CNS News asked Senator Paul, “According to Customs and Border Protection, in fiscal year 2020 it encountered 3 people on the terrorist watchlist trying to cross the southwest border. Last year, it encountered 15. In the first 11 months of this fiscal year, it has encountered 78. Why do you think there has been that increase?”
“Well, I think the Biden administration has signaled that they are supportive of open borders without controls,” Senator Paul replied.
He continued, “And so the whole world is attempting to migrate to our country. And I think that’s what happens if you send the signal that you don’t care whether we enforce our rules.”
As CNS News has reported, in the first 11 months of this fiscal year, CBP has encountered 78 individuals on the terrorist watchlist trying to cross the southwest border between the legal ports of entry, which is a 500% increase from the 15 encounters it had last year.
According to CBP, “The Terrorist Screening Dataset (TSDS) — also known as the ‘watchlist’ — is the U.S. Government’s database that contains sensitive information on terrorist identities.”
