Scarlett Johansson and Colin Jost TV Collab 'on the Table' (EXCL)
Colin Jost had a blast on Celebrity Jeopardy! and the same can be said for wife Scarlett Johansson nailing her most recent TV gig on Today, as a source exclusively tells Life & Style they’re helping each other with the adaptation and looking at other projects on the small screen if all continues to go well.
“Colin is Scarlett’s biggest fan, and she has so much admiration for his talent, too,” the insider says. “He’s so funny, with such great timing. Working with him in Fly Me to the Moon was a total slam dunk. They weren’t sure how it would go, but they both loved it and are now saying they want to do more together.”
While Colin, 42, only had a cameo in his wife’s movie, the two had a blast together on set. Greg Berlanti, the director, is known to be a big fan of the SNL alum, but Scarlett, 40, had insisted his small role was contractually obligated in their prenup agreement.
Joking from the Lucy star aside, the source emphasizes they’re looking for more opportunities to collaborate together and TV may be the best way to find a project that suits them at the moment.
“In a lot of ways, something on TV would be ideal because they could shoot in New York and set their schedules around their home-life. Right now, it’s still something they’re mulling over but they are looking at pitches and coming up with their own ideas as well, it’s kind of given their relationship and interesting new focus.”
Obviously, Colin is a TV veteran from his time at Saturday Night Live, but Scarlett is used to a screen with a little more silver. The Marvel star did recently knock a short stint as a TV host out of the park, though.
Filling in as temporary cohost of Today alongside Jenna Bush Hager, following long-time host Hoda Kotb’s departure, fans insisted the Black Widow actress even “upstaged” Jenna during the week-long temp job, with many more raving over her charisma online.
Heather Schwedel for Slate wrote, “You’re probably wondering how ScarJo is at the job. The answer is … pretty good! It shouldn’t be all that surprising that the art of being a charismatic, beautiful actress in movies translates pretty seamlessly to being a likable TV presenter.”
It may seem strange for an Avenger to take on a morning television gig, but Scarlett admitted on air hosting this kind of TV had been a childhood dream of hers, despite starting out as a child actress.
Saturday Night Live is on the same network as Today, NBC, which may have helped execs at the show snag an A-lister like Scarlett Johansson for a temporary hosting gig, but others have been keen to fill in for a day or so as well, including Eva Longoria, Michelle Buteau, Kelsea Ballerini and Ciara.
Now that the Lost in Translation star is getting warmed up to the idea of a television career, though, she may be appearing alongside her husband more frequently, especially given their work rapport.
“Not every couple can work together, but they can and that’s exciting. They’re both super busy right now so it’s not like they’re going at this with both barrels but it is on the table.”
