Ryan Gosling and Eva Mendes' Daughters Their 'No. 1 Priority' (EXCL)
Ryan Gosling and Eva Mendes love married life and raising their kids, and a source exclusively tells Life & Style they’re preparing to set sail for a summer of fun and travel with their two daughters Esmeralda and Amada, while putting work and money firmly in the back seat.
“The cold, hard business reality for Ryan is that even though he doesn’t have his next film fully locked in, he knows he’s going to be making a lot more movies overseas in the coming years, especially in England,” reveals an insider who has known the family for years. Considering Ryan, 44, has been in talks to sign onto Disney’s newest Shawn Levy-led Star Wars project, the source notes that “No matter what happens with his tentative plans to do a Star Wars movie in the next year,” the Blade Runner 2049 star is committed to getting in as much family time as possible and not letting work commitments drag him away again.
“It really comes down to scheduling for him and Eva, because their kids are going to continue to go to school in Southern California,” the source adds. “If Ryan’s doing a movie in England, it has to be shot in the summer and the whole family goes with him, which is what they did the last two years when he made The Fall Guy in Australia and Operation: Hail Mary in England last summer.”
Spending summers abroad seems to be working for the couple, who met on the set of 2012’s The Place Beyond the Pines. They welcomed two children: Esmeralda, in 2014, followed by a second daughter, Amada, in 2016, whom Eva, 51, now devotes her time to doting over as she called it quits on acting.
“Who knows what I will do in the future … but right now, I’m keeping it in the home with my kids,” the Hitch actress said of her retirement in 2022.
In an interview with GQ, the La La Land star admitted that he tends to follow wife Eva’s lead when it comes to the kids, and he “lean[s] on” her whenever he’s unsure about the right choice for their girls. “She knows what’s important, always,” he explained. “She just somehow knows. So if ever I’m in my head about it, I just ask her.”
Apparently, their scheduling arrangement has been a big success and one Ryan is more than happy to acquiesce to as he focuses more on family than work.
“No matter what, they’re going back to Europe this year and they’re turning it into a real family tradition after the very positive time they had over there last year,” the source continues. “Any filming Ryan does this coming year has to fit into those plans because his and Eva’s kids, and their continuing enrichment, is the family’s number one priority.”
“Ryan and Eva are really taking this opportunity to become citizens of the world. Their kids are finally getting interested in travel and they’re not going to let this special opportunity go to waste.”
