Resurfaced 2006 Clip From Shows Chuck Schumer Saying Trump Is Destined For Greatness
Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer has appeared in a newly resurfaced clip from a 2006 episode of The Apprentice praising President Donald Trump.
The episode, Season 5, Episode 8, recently became available for streaming on Amazon Prime. It featured a segment in which the winning contestants traveled to Washington, D.C., for a breakfast meeting with Schumer.
During the meeting, Schumer appeared to speak favorably of Trump.
“I was born in Brooklyn, the same place where Donald Trump’s family comes from,” Schumer told the group. “His father, and my grandfather, were builders together in Brooklyn.”
One contestant reacted audibly, “Wow!?” while another asked, “Really?”
Schumer confirmed, “Yeah!” before praising Trump’s early career trajectory. “Even when [Trump] was much younger, you knew that he was going to go places,” he said.
The show included a voice-over from a contestant who observed, “Sen. Schumer and Mr. Trump are good friends.”

Years later, during an interview with Politico in 2016, Schumer stated flatly, “[Trump] was not my friend,” describing the relationship instead as a “casual acquaintance.”

More recently, Schumer said, “Donald Trump is a lawless, angry man.”
He later posted on social media, “The fact that The Apprentice President Donald ‘You’re Fired’ Trump is refusing to hold people accountable just shows how weak he is.”
Schumer’s past praise of Trump prompted mixed reactions from both sides of the aisle.
Michigan State Senate Minority Leader Aric Nesbitt commented on the video with the caption, “How things change…”
Former Democratic Rhode Island state legislator Aaron Regunberg said, “As Schumer sells out our Constitution and democracy, you just gotta watch this clip of him sucking up to Trump on an episode of The Apprentice. What a world-class slug of a man.”
Trump had also acknowledged a positive relationship with Schumer.
Speaking on MSNBC in early 2017 before taking office, he said, “I was always very good with Schumer. I was close to Schumer in many ways.”
Trump said he thought he could “get along well with Chuck Schumer.”
However, that sentiment has since shifted, with Trump accusing Schumer of failing to stand up for the Jewish community amid rising antisemitism, notably after the Hamas terror attacks in Israel on October 7, 2023.
“Schumer is a Palestinian, as far as I’m concerned,” Trump told reporters in the Oval Office earlier this month.
“He’s become a Palestinian. He used to be Jewish. He’s not Jewish anymore.”
