President Trump Will Freeze Planned Parenthood Grants
The Trump administration announced plans Tuesday to freeze tens of millions of dollars in family-planning grants to the nation’s biggest abortion company.
The move would halt approximately $20 million in federal funding to Planned Parenthood affiliates, according to sources cited by The Wall Street Journal.
Pro-life advocates hailed the decision as a significant step toward redirecting taxpayer dollars away from abortion centers and toward life-affirming alternatives.

The funding pause, detailed in reports from The Wall Street Journal, targets grants under review for their alignment with diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) efforts. While the administration examines these programs, the freeze effectively cuts off financial support to Planned Parenthood, an organization long criticized by pro-life groups for its role as the nation’s largest abortion business, killing 350,000 babies a year.
“This is a victory for the unborn and for taxpayers who have been forced to fund an industry that ends innocent lives,” said Marjorie Dannenfelser, president of Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America. “The Trump administration is taking a bold stand to ensure federal resources prioritize women’s health and family support, not abortion.”
“This is about protecting life and respecting the conscience of Americans who don’t want their money supporting abortion,” Dannenfelser said. “We commend the administration for taking action and look forward to further policies that uphold the dignity of every human being.”
Priests for Life National Director Frank Pavone also praised the move in comments to LifeNews.
“We are happy to see another of the many streams of funding of Planned Parenthood cut off, and we want that trend to continue,” Pavone said. “The irony is that Planned Parenthood and the abortion industry are the opposite of DEI because they cannot accept the DEI of the unborn.”
Pro-life leaders argue that Planned Parenthood’s abortions overshadow any legitimate health care it may offer, making it an inappropriate recipient of public funds. The freeze, expected to disrupt about $20 million designated for Planned Parenthood affiliates, comes as the administration signals a broader push to reshape federal health priorities.
White House officials did not immediately comment on the timeline for the review or the potential resumption of funding. Pro-life supporters confirmed that alternative providers, such as community health centers and pregnancy centers, stand ready to fill the gap without offering abortions.
During his first week in office last term, Trump signed the Mexico City policy in one of his first acts as president. The pro-life policy prohibits American tax dollars to groups that promote or provide abortions overseas. The move defunded two major abortion chains of hundreds of millions of American tax dollars. The International Planned Parenthood Federation alone estimated a $100 million loss from its budget.
The Mexico City policy, which began with President Ronald Reagan, historically has been supported by pro-life presidents and rescinded by pro-abortion presidents. Trump went further though. He not only reinstated the policy but also expanded it by increasing the number of global health assistance funds and government programs that are covered under the policy.
Trump has also ordered the defunding of the UNFPA, a United Nations population control agency which promotes abortions worldwide.
