Olympic Determine Skater Surya Bonaly’s Medals Stolen From Las Vegas Residence
Former Olympic figure skater Surya Bonaly claimed her medals were stolen from her Las Vegas home while she was caring for her mother with cancer.
Bonaly, 51, took to Instagram on November 7 to share several photos from her figure skating career.
“You see all those medals that I won in the past while competing in different worlds and European championships are sadly gone,” the retired athlete wrote in the caption. “Several days ago someone, I mean, a couple, burglarized my home and stole all my [valuables].”
Bonaly went on to share a “little reminder” for Las Vegas residents and pawn shop employees to keep an eye out for her missing medals. “If you ever see some foreign gold and silver medals for sales Please Please call the Police immediately thanks,” she concluded in the caption with a praying hands emoji.

The European athlete was in Minnesota at the time of the incident, where she was taking care of her mother after she was diagnosed with lung, breast and sternum cancer, according to FOX5 Vegas. According to the outlet, Bonaly is also undergoing treatment for breast cancer.
Bonaly filed a police report with Metro’s Summerlin Area Command, per the outlet.
While speaking to FOX5 Vegas, Bonaly claimed the thieves allegedly broke into her home over the course of four consecutive days. When she returned home, she allegedly found that her front door was open and her home had been trashed.
“I think it’s definitely organized by a company or by some bad people,” Bonaly told the outlet of the robbery. “I realized that my medals were gone. European champion or world champion, junior, everything — any medals that I had with my skating.”
FOX5 Vegas obtained footage from surveillance cameras, which captured multiple people showing up to her home. In addition to giving a view of shattered windows, the video captured the cameras being taken down.
In footage from the first day of the alleged robbery, an individual was seen at the home in a black hoodie and another woman appeared to be wearing a delivery vest. The outlet reported that Banaly found a similar vest just one street away from her home following the incident.

Bonaly said that the alleged robbery made her feel “mad,” adding, “I feel like sometimes I feel like I want to cry.”
“Some people just feel like it’s better to steal something from someone than to go to work,” she continued. “I’m hoping that I can find maybe some medals. I’m hoping, and I pray really that no [one’s] gonna melt that medal.”
The investigation into the alleged robbery is currently ongoing.
Over the course of her figure skating career, Bonaly became a three-time World silver medalist, a five-time European champion, the 1991 World Junior Champion and a nine-time French national champion. Additionally, she competed in the 1998 Winter Olympics in Nagano, Japan, where she came in fourth place.
