NY Governor Calls Trump After Unhinged Press Conference With Letitia James

New York Governor Kathy Hochul, a Democrat, told Politico that she had a “very cordial” phone call with President-elect Trump in which the two discussed ways they can work together. The chat comes just days after New York Attorney General Letitia James, while flanked by the governor, suggested that she would continue on with politically motivated prosecutions and legal challenges in a combative post-election press conference.

“It was a very cordial call, and listen, I said I’ll work with anybody,” Hochul said during a post-election event in Puerto Rico on Thursday, according to a report from Politico.

“I basically just reaffirmed there are areas we can work together, like infrastructure, where we rely on federal money, and he seems to share my priorities.”

Hochul told reporters that she reached out to the president-elect “as an appropriate courtesy to congratulate the winner of an election.”

The governor stated that she asked Trump for continued federal fundraising assistance with the Metropolitan Transport Authority, for Manhattan upgrades that include extending the Second Avenue Subway and renovations at Penn Station, Politico reported. “I want Penn Station to be something that we’re all proud of. I said it can be beautiful. And he agreed,” Hochul said of her call with the president-elect.

Just a day earlier, the governor was standing next to New York Attorney General Letitia James when she vowed to “fight back once again” against a Trump administration. James — who campaigned on prosecuting during his first term — baselessly suggested that minorities were at risk under the president-elect’s leadership and framed herself as a “guardian” of their rights.

“We will continue to stand tall in the face of injustice, revenge, or retribution, protect and our most vulnerable and marginalized amongst us. Because it is my sworn duty and responsibility to lead that fight, working with the governor of this great state, Kathy Hochul,” James said.

The governor affirmed her commitment to pushing back against the Trump Administration — who received record levels of support from Black and Latino voters — and reiterated the attorney general’s assertions about “protecting” the rights of minorities.

Prior to the election, Hochul slandered Trump supporters as racists and misogynists while making false claims about Trump’s agenda, particularly in regards to the Heritage Foundation’s Project 2025, which has nothing to do with the Trump Administration’s Agenda 47 itinerary.

“If you’re voting for these Republicans in New York, you are voting for someone who supports Donald Trump and you’re anti-woman, you’re anti-abortion, and basically you’re anti-American because you have just trashed American values and what our country is all about,” the governor said after Trump’s Madison Square Garden rally.
