Newt Gingrich: 'President Trump Is Serious About Draining the Swamp'
Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich said President-elect Donald Trump is “serious about draining the swamp,” adding that Republicans should not be afraid of a Government shutdown.
Gingrich wrote on X:
“President Trump and Republicans should not be afraid of a government shutdown.”
“The next election is two years away. We had two shutdowns in 1995 and became the first reelected House GOP majority since 1928.”
“It may take shock therapy for Schumer and democrats to learn President Trump is serious about draining the swamp.”
During an earlier appearance on Fox News’sNews’ “Hannity,” Gingrich said Trump is the “de-facto president” amid a transition period that he called “amazing” and “decisive.”

The former Speaker noted that Trump’s impact on Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s political future shows the power the President has going forward.
“I did write a piece, which is basically describing the de-facto President, because it’s clear, and if you watch day by day, President Trump both in his international relations, I mean, he may have broken Trudeau’s government in the last three days because Trudeau’s strongest ally resigned in disgust at how Trudeau had caved in to Trump. And literally, I think Trudeau may lose a vote of confidence in Canada,” he said.
“He clearly, when he went to Notre Dame, was treated in Paris as, in fact, the President. He got a presidential welcome. He met with 82 government leaders from around the world.”
“He kept meeting with key people and I think that President Trump is already beginning to have a direct impact. In fact, even Disney has begun to drop various woke things from their planned presentations, I think, in response to this. So this is one of the most amazing transitions I’ve seen as a historian.”
“I don’t remember anything that was quite this decisive in the opening weeks after an election and before inauguration.”
As we reported on Thursday, Canada was forced to address its open borders after Trump’s tariff threats following his meeting with Trudeau.
The proposal dubbed the “North American Joint Strike Force,” will enhance collaboration between the U.S. and Canada to tackle border crossings, organized crime networks, and fentanyl.
A recent phone call between Canadian Public Safety Minister Dominic LeBlanc, Foreign Affairs Minister Mélanie Joly, and incoming U.S. border czar Tom Homan outlined the details of the proposal.
