NEW: General Mark Milley To Lose Security Clearance, Protection Detail

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth will be “immediately pulling” retired General Mark Milley’s personal security detail and security clearance, according to a report from Fox News citing multiple senior administration officials.

Hegseth will also be directing the new acting Inspector General to conduct a review board to determine if enough evidence exists for Milley to be stripped of a star in retirement based on his actions to “undermine the chain of command” during President Trump’s first term, according to the report.

In addition, the Pentagon will also be removing a second portrait of Milley from the Pentagon. The portrait, which is meant to honor his service as chief of staff of the army, is currently displayed in the Army’s Marshall Corridor on the building’s third floor. The removal could take place as early as Tuesday night, meaning that there will be no more portraits of Milley on display in the Pentagon.

A separate portrait of Milley was removed from the building on January 20, just a few hours after President Trump’s inauguration.

Milley, along with a number of additional senior Trump aides and advisors, had been assigned personal security details following the killing of Iranian Quds Force commander Qasem Soleimani in 2020. Iran has vowed to retaliate for the strikes, which also killed a senior Shiite militia leader in Iraq.

The Trump Administration has also moved to remove the personal security details assigned to former National Security Advisor John Bolton and former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, both of whom have criticized Trump on numerous occasions. When asked why he was pulling the clearances, Trump told reporters that government officials should not be entitled to lifetime security, adding that all of the affected officials have “made a-lot of money” and can hire their own security.

“There is a new era of accountability in the Defense Department under President Trump’s leadership—and that’s exactly what the American people expect,” a senior administration official told Fox News.

During the final two months of Trump’s term in 2020, Milley called his Chinese counterpart and “warned” them that he would not follow through with Trump’s orders if directed to engage in a military conflict with the nation. According to the book “Peril” by Bob Woodward and Robert Costa, Milley openly collaborated with the Chinese Communist Party even though Trump was not planning any military strikes.

In a separate book by Woodward, he recalled a 2023 conversation with Milley in which he described then-President Trump as a “fascist to the core.” The comment was allegedly made while he was serving in uniform as chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

President Biden opted to provide Milley with a preemptive pardon during his final week in office.
