MTG Goes Off On PBS CEO, Brings The Receipts: ‘You Lied Under Oath!’

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) pulled no punches during a House hearing this week, directly accusing PBS CEO Paula Kerger of lying under oath after Kerger denied that PBS had aired drag queen content targeted at children. Greene came armed with receipts—and video evidence.

During a House Oversight hearing on taxpayer funding for public broadcasting, Greene blasted the leadership of both PBS and NPR, questioning why Americans are being forced to fund content that she says pushes a far-left agenda, particularly on issues of gender identity and race.

“The LGBTQ indoctrination of our children, the systematic racism narrative, and the support for censorship being pushed by the heads of NPR and PBS are just several of the many abuses of taxpayer dollars,” Greene said.

At one point, Greene emphasized the nation’s financial situation, warning that funding radical public programming is unsustainable.

“The United States of America is broke and can’t afford it,” Greene said. “Seriously, do you think that PBS should be funded by the American people? ‘Cause I certainly don’t.”

Kerger had previously claimed there was no drag queen content on PBS aimed at children. But Greene immediately called out the claim and proceeded to show a clip from Let’s Learn, a PBS program for children ages 3 to 8.

The video featured a drag queen singing and dancing, encouraging children to “get your singing voices ready” and follow along with moves like “the hips go swish swish swish” and “the shoulders go shimmy shimmy shimmy.”

“Absolutely disgusting. Deplorable,” Greene said as the video played. “This was shown to children. I can’t even watch this.”

Greene pointed out that the video aired on April 1, 2021, and remained online until it was quietly taken down nearly two months later. She argued that the extended time it remained up disproves any claim it was mistakenly published or aired.

“By the way, Ms. Kerger, that was aired on April 1, 2021. It wasn’t an accident, and it wasn’t just for a brief time that it was up,” Greene said. “It was aired April 1st, and then somehow it expired May 24th. It was taken down eight full weeks later. I wonder why. I wonder why that was taken down.”

Greene didn’t stop there. She pointed to other examples of taxpayer-funded content that she said misleads children and smears conservatives.

This week, NPR and PBS leadership faced sharp questioning from House Republicans over liberal bias and the justification for continued federal funding. The hearing, provocatively titled “Anti-American Airwaves,” put the heads of both public media institutions on the defensive.

NPR CEO Katherine Maher admitted the organization was wrong to delay coverage of the Hunter Biden laptop story and acknowledged past social media posts criticizing President Trump, which she said were made before joining NPR.

PBS CEO Paula Kerger also addressed concerns over children’s programming, clarifying that a segment involving a drag queen had mistakenly appeared on a local station’s website but was not part of PBS’s official lineup and was quickly removed.

Republican lawmakers called for an end to federal funding, citing a lack of political diversity in programming and taxpayer dollars being used to push what they see as leftist narratives.

The debate carries significant implications, as the Corporation for Public Broadcasting received $535 million in funding for fiscal year 2025, much of which supports local stations in underserved areas. President Trump has said he would “love” to cut funding altogether. With GOP lawmakers pushing to defund NPR and PBS, the future of public broadcasting hangs in the balance.
