Miley Cyrus and Selena Gomez Plan 'Double Date' After Rumored Feud
Miley Cyrus and Selena Gomez were rumored to be feuding in their younger years, but they’ve put that behind them – as evidenced by their cozy hangout at the 2025 Oscars – and now they’re looking to properly rebuild the friendship and even plan a double date.
“They very publicly buried the hatchet back in 2020, and since then, they’ve been supportive of each other on social media, but it was more of a public-facing thing than an actual friendship,” an insider exclusively tells Life & Style. “Not to say it was phony, because they were both sincere with their praise of each other, but neither of them was calling to make dinner plans. But they ended up spending a ton of time together the night of the Oscars, partly because Miley and Benny [Blanco] go way back. They’ve collaborated on songs and have so many of the same friends in the industry, so they had a lot to talk about.”
The source tells Life & Style that the “Flowers” singer, 32, “had her boyfriend Maxx [Morando] with her and he’s also a musician so the four of them really clicked. They’ve already made plans for a double date. Selena and Benny are hosting and making dinner, it’s all very wholesome.”
Selena and Benny, 37, got engaged in December 2024 after dating for over one year. Three months later, they released their digital album, I Said I Love You First. Miley, for her part, has kept details about her relationship with Maxx, 26, pretty private since they were set up on a blind date in summer 2021.
Miley and Selena, 32, are both Disney Channel royalty and first worked together during the season 2 episode of Hannah Montana titled “That’s What Friends Are For?” The episode aired in 2007, and fans watched Miley’s onscreen character play a frenemy to fellow musician Mikayla, played by Selena.
During that time, the “End of the World” artist was dating the youngest Jonas brother, Nick Jonas. Miley and the “Jealous” singer dated on-again, off-again between 2006 and 2008, when they called it quits for good.
However, Nick, 32, later moved on to Selena in 2008 as they were all intertwined in the Disney Channel circle of stars but they reportedly called it quits in 2009.
In 2014, the “We Can’t Stop” singer shaded Selena while performing at a concert while singing the song “FU.” TMZ shared a clip of the moment at the time, which showed Miley grabbing a cardboard cutout of Selena from a fan in the crowd and later tossing it across the stage.
Selena’s Wizards of Waverly place costar Jennifer Stone weighed in on the Disney drama in 2024 and classified the feud as “messy high school nonsense.”
“They intermittently got along,” Jennifer shared during a July 2024 episode of the “Wizards of Waverly Pod” podcast. “I mean, come on. It was like high school.”
“I think Miley dated [Nick] first and then Selena dated him, and then it was just messy high school nonsense. I know they were intermittently not getting along,” Jennifer continued, adding, “They’re fine now. But, yeah, it was high school just BS.”
Nonetheless, the Spring Breakers star and “Used to Be Young” singer have publicly supported each other over recent years. In 2022, Miley supported Selena’s Saturday Night Live hosting debut after she mentioned the Grammy winner in her opening monologue.
“One of my oldest friends, Miley Cyrus, said ‘Just be yourself and have fun.’ And I was, like, ‘Miley, is that just an excuse for me to do an impression of you on the show?’ And she was, like, ‘Hell yeah, I’m Miley Cyrus,” Selena said.
Miley also noted in a 2019 interview with Capital FM, “I grew up collaborating with Demi and Selena. There was never any competition — when you are authentically yourself, no one can be you, so you’re never worried about someone stealing your place.”
Selena addressed her relationship with Miley years before, telling W Magazine in 2016, “We never feuded. We both liked the same guy when we were 16. It was just a Hilary Duff – Lindsay Lohan thing: ‘Oh, my God, we like the same boy!’ We are now completely settled in our own lives.”
