Mike Lindell Floats Run Against Tim Walz

Mike Lindell, CEO of My Pillow and erstwhile Trump advisor, is floating a potential run for elected office, saying that he’s considering challenging Tim Walz for governor of Minnesota in 2026.

Walz, who sits slightly above water in most recent polling, may be vulnerable to a well-funded Republican challenger, Lindell said on his own podcast this week.

“When I do my due diligence, and we’re going to do polling, we’re gonna get a couple different polls to be taken,” the businessman said on Monday.

Before he waded into conservative media, Lindell had already endeared himself to customers of his pillow company by manufacturing his products in the U.S. and sharing his longtime battle against drug addiction. On both fronts, he believes he is well-positioned to wrestle with Walz.

“What are they going to do? ‘Well, Mike Lindell, you know he was a crack addict,” he said, laughing. “Yeah? What else you got?”

“I am considering it, and I’m going to do due diligence… I’m going to make some bigger announcements tomorrow,” Lindell promised.

Despite Walz’s souring reputation on the national stage, he has maintained level favorability back home, where liberal Minnesota voters are giving him the benefit of the doubt. A February survey showed 52% approving of the governor’s job compared to 47% who disapproved; those numbers are slightly higher than the 48-47% showing he had in September after being selected by former Vice President Kamala Harris to join her ticket.

Lindell, 63, has courted controversy by suggesting that former President Joe Biden would be removed from office as early as September of 2021 and leaned into a conspiracy theory that Republicans in the U.S. House had the power to install President Donald Trump in his place. He was among the fiercest voices around Trump to contest the results of the 2020 election during his final days in office.

His endless enthusiasm for Trump and the MAGA movement will almost certainly make the race a marquee in 2026, even if Lindell faces political headwinds. President Trump, eager to punish rivals at the state level, would also certainly wade in to help his ally.

At the same time, Governor Walz is doing himself no favors by continuing to mock Trump and cost-cutting advisor Elon Musk as he stokes enthusiasm for a possible 2028 presidential campaign. The Democrat was recently forced to retract a statement lauding the decline of Tesla’s stock, which ironically is also a key investment within Minnesota’s public pension system.
