Meta to Scrap Fact Checkers From Facebook and Instagram
Meta is planning to eliminate its fact-checking program, which has been weaponized against Conservative news sites for years, and replace it with a system like X’s community notes.
On Tuesday, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg said Donald Trump’s election victory influenced the decision and would impact Facebook and Instagram.
This is a far cry from when Trump was banned from both Facebook four years ago.
Zuckerberg described the election victory as a “cultural tipping point.”
“We’re going to get back to our roots and focus on reducing mistakes, simplifying our policies and restoring free expression on our platforms,” Zuckerberg said in a video.
“More specifically, here’s what we’re going to do. First, we’re going to get rid of fact-checkers and replace them with community notes similar to X, starting in the U.S.”
There have been other shifts within Meta, too.

Last week, we reported that Zuckerberg fired Nick Clegg, the company’s president for global affairs and former British deputy prime minister.
Clegg, who was one of the most aggressive instigators of the Facebook censorship regime against Trump and the MAGA movement following the January 6th protests, will now be replaced by Joel Kaplan, a Republican who served as White House Deputy Chief of Staff under George W. Bush.
Kaplan “has been one of the most forceful voices inside Meta against restrictions on political speech, arguing internally that such policies would disproportionately mute conservative voices,” Semafor reports.
Zuckerberg released a statement following Glegg’s departure:
“I’m grateful for everything you’ve done for Meta and the world these past seven years,” Zuckerberg said.
“I’ve learned so much working with you and our whole team is better for having this opportunity.
“You’ve made an important impact advancing Meta’s voice and values around the world, as well as our vision for AI and the metaverse,” he continued. You’ve also built a strong team to carry this work forward.”
“I’m excited for Joel to step into this role next given his deep experience and insight leading our policy work for many years.”
Last year, Zuckerberg donated $1 million to Trump’s inauguration fund following their meeting at Mar-a-Lago.
Last year, Zuckerberg admitted that Trump’s fearless response to his assassination attempt was one of the most “badass” things he had ever seen.
