Meghan Markle’s Dog Died: Her Tribute to Her Beagle Named Guy
Meghan Markle is mourning the loss of her dog, Guy, who died almost 10 years after she adopted him.
“In 2015, I adopted a beagle from a dog rescue in Canada. He had been at a kill shelter in Kentucky and given a few days to live. I swooped him up … and fell in love,” the Suits actress, 43, captioned her honorable Instagram montage of her furry baby on Tuesday, January 7. “They referred to him as ‘the little guy’ because he was so small and frail, so I named him Guy. And he was the best guy any girl could have asked for.”
After reflecting on all the milestones that Guy was a part of, including filming Suits, getting married to Prince Harry and welcoming kids Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, Meghan revealed that her pup fought health and physical barriers.
“He endured a terrible accident shortly before I moved to the U.K. which had him undergoing surgeries for several months and unable to leave the clinic,” she continued. “Doctors said he would never walk again, but Dr Noel Fitzpatrick said he could do it. H and I would drive late at night, after hours, to see Guy as he recovered in Surrey for months on end.”
While concluding her tribute to Guy, the upcoming With Love, Meghan, star told her fans that she “cried too many tears to count” since his death.
“The type of tears that make you get in the shower with the absurd hope that the running water on your face will somehow make you not feel them, or pretend they’re not there. But they are. And that’s okay too,” Meghan wrote. “Thank you for so many years of unconditional love, my sweet Guy. You filled my life in ways you’ll never know.”
In the video, Meghan included a lot of precious moments with Guy, who seemed to love to be next to her side. Lilibet may have been his favorite family member, as the little girl was heard singing a song for him alongside her mom.
Meghan and Harry, 40, also share a black Labrador named Pula and the second beagle they rescued in 2022, Mama Mia.
In December 2024, Guy and his fur siblings were included in Harry and Meghan’s royal holiday card. The pups watched the couple embrace Archie and Lilibet, who ran to them for a big hug. The following month, Guy appeared in the trailer for Meghan’s upcoming lifestyle series, With Love, Meghan. He will also make a few cameos throughout the season after the Wednesday, January 15, premiere.
Harry shared what it was like leading a household full of three dogs and two young children, admitting that the animals maintain the zen.
“I tell you what, we all need a dog that keeps us calm. I’ve got three in this house now. So, we basically have five children,” the Spare author said in 2022. “Between the three of them, they charge around chasing squirrels and causing all sorts of problems to us every single day. But they are also emotional, emotional support dogs 100 percent when they’re behaving.”
