Maryland Senate Passes Bill to Spend $25 Million to Kill Babies in Abortions
The Maryland Senate on March 17 passed legislation to create a $25 million public abortion fund, sourced from insurance companies, for expectant mothers who are underinsured or uninsured, according to Maryland Matters.
The Senate passed Senate Bill 848 in a 29-15 vote. The $1 per month surcharges from insurance plans sold under the Affordable Care Act (ACA) exchange in Maryland will create the money for the fund.

If SB 848 is signed into law, Maryland will be the first state to use ACA insurance surcharge to fund abortion.
Laura Bogley, the executive director of Maryland Right to Life, stated that the legislation targets women in poverty, according to the Washington Post.
“Poor women do not need free abortions,” Bogley said. “They need public support programs that will empower them to choose life for their children.”
The state’s House of Representatives passed the companion bill, House Bill 930, along party lines on March 13.
Before the legislation goes to Democratic Gov. Wes Moore’s desk, the House and Senate must reconcile their separate versions of the bill, the Washington Post reports.
The Washington Post reports that if Moore signs the legislation into law, it will go into effect July 1.
