A man was pushed onto the subway tracks and hit by an incoming 1 train on Tuesday afternoon, with the straphanger being left in critical condition and a suspect has been arrested following the incident.

Cops have called the attack random, with the unidentified 45-year-old victim standing at the 18th Street station just after 1:30 pm when a hooded suspect pushed him onto the tracks, the New York Post reported. The victim was rushed to a local hospital where the NYPD said he was in critical but stable condition.

Video of the incident showed the victim standing at the edge of the train platform when the suspect walked up behind him and pushed him onto the tracks. The victim disappeared under an oncoming train. Law enforcement sources told NBC 4 that the man suffered injuries to his head and ribs.

The suspect, a 23-year-old man, was taken into custody shortly after the incident but charges have not yet been filed, police told the outlet. The suspect reportedly has multiple prior arrests for assault and harassment.

This comes after the victim of another subway attack was identified on Tuesday. 57-year-old Debrina Kawam of New Jersey was identified as the woman allegedly set on fire by illegal immigrant Sebastian Zapeta, 33, who has been indicted for her murder. Kawam burned to death aboard an F train in the Coney Island section of Brooklyn.
