The Issue: Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani’s intention to end the clearing of homeless encampments.
Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani will stop at nothing to destroy the city, citizen by citizen (“Zo nix on clearing camps of homeless,” Dec. 5).
This not only includes the rich, but the poor and homeless. New York has not experienced a brutal winter in years but the 2026 is forecast to be snowier and colder than average.
To paraphrase the Book of Exodus, Mamdani is saying, “Let my people freeze.”

I’m glad to hear the incoming mayor will not remove homeless encampments.
Let them set up outside Gracie Mansion and in Tribeca, Park Slope and Williamsburg. The people living there are the ones who voted for him.

Hey Zoh, it would have been nice if you started your mayoralty with a good idea, but as expected, your first policy says you want the homeless to freeze to death by leaving tent cities alone.
You are not even in office yet, and you’re further upsetting the decent people who had the brains not to vote for you.

I hope the encampments start on the Upper West Side and Upper East Side. Let all the morons who voted for this candidate suffer. They don’t understand elections have consequences.
Many, including myself, have stopped going into the city since the congestion toll. Now Mamdani’s encampments will do wonders for all the businesses that depend on people visiting the city.

The homeless population will exponentially increase under Mamdani. It will be the beginning of the end for NYC.
These are not people trying to save a few bucks by pitching a tent in the local park; they are people dealing with mental illness or addiction.
There is no doubt this problem needs a solution. But compounding the problem before it can even begin to be addressed is a recipe for disaster.

Mamdani’s plan is fantasy. A large proportion of homeless people are homeless because of mental illness or addiction. Leaving them in homeless encampments throughout the city helps no one.
He needs to figure out how to tackle this problem from the root cause, or he will make it worse for everyone.

The Issue: Rich Lowry’s column cheering President Trump’s end to government pressure pushing EVs.
Rich Lowry is not alone in cheering President Trump for “saving the gas-powered car” (“Exit electric-car idiocy,” Dec. 6).
You know who else is cheering? Chinese electric-car companies. They are dominating the market with affordable, high-tech electric cars, bringing down the smog in their own cities, and other cities around the world.
But here in America, we continue to breathe in the fumes from our gas-powered traffic while the rest of the world embraces a clean future.
Trump is keeping us in the past so his fossil-fuel donors can keep making profits at our expense.

We have always been able to choose to buy a gas-powered car. One could also choose to drive a horse-drawn buggy — all options are available. But electric cars cost less to maintain, are less expensive to drive, decrease air pollution and help us compete with China.
So thanks for the choice, President Trump — but no thanks.
