Madonna ‘Relieved to Be Single Again’ After Akeem Morris Split
Madonna’s not letting her recent split from Akeem Morris get her down. Her pals are saying it’s a good sign that she’s enjoying her own company before finally settling down with someone closer to her own age when she’s ready.
“There was a time when Madonna took her breakups quite badly,” a source exclusively tells Life & Style. “She’d mope around and get super upset and sometimes even vindictive. But those days seem to be behind her, she doesn’t seem to be phased at all.”
Akeem, 28, is almost four decades younger than the “Material Girl” singer, 66, and were first spotted packing major PDA on a boat in Positano, Italy, in August. The pair quietly split by October, with sources telling the Mirror that the relationship had “run its course.”
“She’s all about living in the moment and has an ‘on to the next’ attitude,” the insider explains of the Grammy Award-winning singer. “She just doesn’t get attached the way she used to. By all accounts, this break-up was a very amicable, mutual decision.”
The source says that the Swept Away actress and the marketing executive are “staying friends,” with Madonna almost “relieved to be single again.”
“It gives her a chance to reflect and spend more time with her kids,” the insider dishes. “With the holidays coming up she’s got a lot on her plate as far as family commitments and she’s also back in the studio working on an album, so she doesn’t have a lot of free time.”
Madonna’s six kids — Lourdes Leon, Rocco Ritchie, David Banda, Mercy James, Stella Ciccone and Estere Ciccone — are “happy she’s taking a break” as they prefer having their mother “all to themselves.”
“[They] would honestly rather see her with a man more her age,” the insider concludes.
Prior to her relationship with the former footballer, Madonna dated Josh Popper, a 30-year-old boxing coach who trained her son David, 19. Their relationship lasted a year before sources told The U.S. Sun in May that things had “fizzled out.”
“Madonna has barely seen Josh for months because her schedule was so hectic,” the outlet reported. “There is genuinely no bad blood — they’re still fond of each other. At the moment their relationship doesn’t feel feasible and they’ve cooled things off, but they are staying friends.”
After taking a break after the split, sources exclusively told Life & Style that the singer was “auditioning” men until she found the “right boy toy.”
“They need to check all the boxes and, of course, sign ironclad NDAs, and then when she’s tired of them or they stop satisfying her on every level, she cuts them loose,” a separate source told Life & Style on June 6. “Usually with a nice farewell package to keep them sweet,” the insider continues.
As for the type of man that captures Madonna’s attention, the insider said, “She has a very clear type, sexy, athletic, talented, fun, loyal and passionate and she’s got to feel a real spark. She swears she can tell when a guy is faking it and just in it for fame. She wants a guy that is really attracted to her.”
