Liam Hemsworth and Laura Dern Had 'Fun' Filming Love Scenes (EXCL)

The Lonely Planet costars Liam Hemsworth and Laura Dern had some major chemistry on and off the set of their Netflix romcom and they’re continuing to live on the edge – even though he’s been dating Gabrielle Brooks for over four years and she’s attached, as well – a source exclusively tells Life & Style

“Laura and Liam get along so well, and some would go so far to say she has him eating out of the palm of her hand. He looks up to her and thinks she’s incredibly sexy,” the source dishes.

“Laura’s a very hot-blood character and likes to live in the moment, but a girl can dream, can’t she?”

Laura, 57, had nothing but high praise for her hunky costar after filming Susannah Grant-directed movie, which details an unexpected romance between the Big Little Lies actress’ novelist character and her younger costar, 34, who plays a man torn between his girlfriend and his new flame.

The film eventually builds up to a steamy bedroom scene between the two stars, which can be awkward and uncomfortable at times – but not for Liam and Laura.

The Wild at Heart star told People that her costar was “literally the safest person I could ever talk through everything in my life with.”

While she also says there was “definitely an intimacy coordinator” on set, the actress noted that she “was so lucky” to work with The Hunger Games actor.

Though, not everyone in Hollywood can say the same. The acting profession is rife with mishaps on set when it comes to portraying love making – from silly embarrassment to legitimate violence.

Kate Winslet previously told E! News in September 2017 filming her romance scenes with costar Idris Elba in The Mountain Between Us was “really awkward — it doesn’t matter which way you look at it.”

While Laura’s Big Little Lies costar Nicole Kidman has told W Magazine in June 2017 that she felt “very exposed and vulnerable and deeply humiliated at times,” while filming sex scenes with her on-screen husband Alexander Skarsgård for the series.

Of course, there’s also the infamous rape scene between Marlon Brando and Maria Schneider characters in controversial director Bernardo Bertolucci‘s Last Tango in Paris, which wasn’t in the script and only added moments before filming. The scene was intentionally supposed to be disturbing – to the viewer – but it also left the actress feeling “a little raped, both by Marlon and by Bertolucci,” she told The DailyMail in July 2007.

However, as Laura makes a point of saying about her scenes with Liam, “By the time we were doing those scenes, there was nothing we couldn’t talk about together and work out creatively, professionally, all of that,” the actress explains. “But we also had a lot of support. We had much, much discussion.”

With such a communicative relationship, it’s no wonder the source says, “It was easy to pal around, because they had a sizzling connection, not that they’d do anything about it, but in a perfect world if he was single and she was single, they would be ideal partners.”

“They had so much fun doing those love scenes and enjoyed a good old-fashioned flirt.”

“Bottom line is, they’re adults and haven’t crossed any lines, but they are having fun with it just the same.”
