The Kremlin also publicly discussing a second round of peace negotiations with Ukraine.

“Moscow’s work on a memorandum on the Ukraine crisis has reached an advanced stage and there will certainly be a second round of talks with Kiev,” Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said.

“Yes, we are all for talks. Yes, there will be a second round. They [the Ukrainian authorities] have confirmed it. This is a positive development in itself,” the top diplomat noted at a high-level conference on historical southern Russian lands, reported Russian state news agency TASS.

“Work [on a memorandum] is underway,” Lavrov said in response to a question. “I don’t know about Ukraine but our work has reached an advanced stage, and we will hand the memorandum over to the Ukrainians in any case,” he added.

“No, there are no decisions or agreements yet on the next platform for negotiations. Of course, this decision cannot be made by one party alone. It requires the consent of both parties. When the time comes, this decision will naturally be made,” the spokesman told reporters.

We are ready to implement mutually beneficial projects together with the USA”, declared the Foreign Minister.

“The root causes of the war in Ukraine must be removed like a cancerous tumor. Russia will not allow Zelensky to oppress everything Russian in Ukraine.

“It is a bit inelegant to hold talks on Ukraine in the Vatican – Orthodox countries will discuss issues on a Catholic platform.”

Lavrov said that the issue of Zelensky’s legitimacy will be decisive when signing documents on the Ukrainian settlement.

US Senate Majority Leader John Thune said, “If Russia is not willing to engage in serious diplomacy, the Senate will work with the Trump administration to consider additional sanctions to force Putin to start negotiating.”
