Buckley Carlson, son of conservative media titan Tucker Carlson, is stepping into a new role in Washington, D.C., where he’ll be working alongside Vice President JD Vance.

Sources close to the development confirmed that Buckley, who has made a name for himself in Republican circles as a seasoned Capitol Hill aide, is set to join Vance’s press office as deputy press secretary, sources familiar with the move told ABC News.

Carlson, is no stranger to the fast-paced world of politics. Since 2019, he has worked in various roles on Capitol Hill, earning a reputation as a sharp strategist and effective communicator. Most recently, he served as deputy chief of staff for Rep. Jim Banks (R-IN), a prominent ally of House conservatives and chair of the Republican Study Committee.

Carlson’s experience with Banks, combined with his connections in D.C., reportedly made him an attractive hire for Vance’s growing team. As deputy press secretary, Carlson will play a key role in shaping the Vice President’s communications strategy and ensuring the administration’s message resonates with voters across the country.

His father, best known for hosting Tucker Carlson Tonight, aired on Fox News from 2016 until his departure in 2023. Tucker’s show was one of the highest-rated programs in cable news, where he tackled political and cultural issues with a sharp, often controversial tone.

After leaving Fox News, he transitioned to creating content on X (formerly Twitter), launching his own video series, which aimed to reach a broad audience outside traditional media channels. Throughout his career, he has been a polarizing figure, celebrated by conservatives for challenging mainstream narratives.

Meanwhile Vance’s personal journey from a challenging childhood to holding the nation’s second-highest office has also shown commitment to addressing the needs of working-class Americans. The appointment comes as the Vice President, a former venture capitalist and best-selling author turned populist firebrand, continues to cement his influence as a major figure in the Trump administration.

In his first interview as Vice President on CBS’ “Face the Nation,” Vance discussed the administration’s efforts to combat inflation and emphasized that initiatives to lower grocery and energy prices would require time to take effect. On Sunday, he pushed back against Margaret Brennan, defending the Trump Administration’s immigration policies.

Brennan criticized recent executive orders, including one on birthright citizenship, which has faced legal challenges.

Vance counted, saying, “If you are a lawful permanent resident, or a legal immigrant who plans to stay, your children, of course, should become American citizens. But…if you come here on vacation and you have a baby in an American hospital, that baby doesn’t become an American citizen.”

“Just because we were founded by immigrants doesn’t mean that 240 years later we have to have the dumbest immigration policy in the world… No country says that temporary visitors, their children, will be given complete access to the benefits and blessings of American citizenship,” Vance explained.

The discussion also covered the Biden Administration’s handling of asylum seekers. The VP also criticized Biden’s lax policies, stating they led to “400 individuals whose names appear on terror watchlists crossing the border.”
