JUST IN: Senate REJECTS Iran Warfare Powers Decision — One Republican Sides With Democrats

This just in: a War Powers resolution that would have limited President Trump’s military actions against Iran has failed in the Senate.

After President Trump ordered strikes against Iran over the weekend, Democrat Sen. Tim Kaine filed the resolution to try to stop Operation Epic Fury.

But, in a 47-53 vote, that attempt was shot down!

Check it out:

The final vote was largely along party lines.

However, one RINO — Sen. Rand Paul — joined Democrats to vote “yes” on the resolution.

And, one Democrat (DINO?) — Sen. John Fetterman — voted against the resolution.

NBC News reported:

The vote was 47-53, short of the simple majority needed to move the resolution to the Senate floor.

Sen. John Fetterman of Pennsylvania was the only Democrat to join Republicans in voting no, while Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky was the only Republican to join Democrats in voting yes.

The resolution, introduced by Sen. Tim Kaine, D-Va., calls for removing “the United States Armed Forces from hostilities within or against Iran, unless explicitly authorized by a declaration of war or a specific authorization for use of military force.”

The House is expected to vote down a similar war powers resolution Thursday.

Republican Rep. Thomas Massie and Democrat Rep. Ro Khanna have filed a similar War Powers resolution in the House of Representatives.

Today, Congress members debated it on the House floor:

The House is expected to vote on the resolution tomorrow, on Thursday.

However, it is unlikely to pass.

AP News has more on the upcoming House vote:

On the other side of the Capitol, an intense debate over the war unfolded before a vote Thursday. The House first debated a resolution presented by GOP leadership affirming that Iran is the world’s largest state sponsor of terrorism.

Rep. Brian Mast, the GOP chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, publicly thanked Trump for taking action against Iran, saying the president is using his own constitutional authority to defend the U.S. against the “imminent threat” of Iran.

Mast, an Army veteran who worked as a bomb disposal expert in Afghanistan, said the Democratic resolution was effectively asking “that the president do nothing.”

Rep. Gregory Meeks, the top Democrat on the Foreign Affairs panel, said before the debate that the hardest votes he has taken in Congress have been to decide whether to send U.S. troops to war. “Our young men and women’s lives are on the line,” he said, his voice showing emotion as he emerged from a closed-door briefing late Tuesday with Trump officials.

At a news conference Wednesday, several Democratic members who are also veterans of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars spoke about the heavy costs of those conflicts.

One of them was Rep. Jason Crow, D-Colo. “I learned when I was fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan, that when elites in Washington bang the war drums, pound their chest, talk about the costs of war and act tough, they’re not talking about them doing it, they’re not talking about their kids,” Crow said. “They’re talking about working class kids like us.”
