JUST IN: Minneapolis Officers Shut Faculties Due To Safety Issues
It appears the Minneapolis school district is preparing for the worst.
The Minneapolis School District on Wednesday night announced it will close all schools in the district on January 8th and 9th.
The announcement comes less than 12 hours after an ICE agent shot and killed a woman who was reportedly attempting to run him over, which has sparked massive protests in downtown Minneapolis.
CBS News broke the story of the school’s closing:
Minneapolis Public Schools announced late Wednesday night that they are canceling classes for the remainder of the week after officials said an ICE agent fatally shot a woman Wednesday morning.
The district said the decision was made out of an abundance of caution. All MPS-sponsored programs, including athletics, Community Education, and adult education, are also canceled.
The district also stated that students will not switch to online learning, as it is only available during severe weather conditions.
ICE agents were in a residential neighborhood at 34th Street and Portland Avenue, the shooting happened around 10 a.m. Wednesday night, community members gathered in the area for a vigil for 37-year-old Renee Good who was killed by an ICE agent. The killing comes amid the influx of 2,000 federal law enforcement members in the Twin Cities metro area.
Two federal sources confirm Good was a U.S. citizen. City leaders said she was a legal observer of federal actions in the city and wasn’t the target for an ICE-related arrest.
Here’s the most likely reason the schools have been closed:

Tim Walz even speculated that he was going to deploy the National Guard, per Fox News:
Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz said Wednesday the state’s National Guard was prepared to deploy if necessary following the fatal shooting of a woman during a federal immigration enforcement operation, saying, “We’ve never been at war with our federal government.”
During a news conference, Walz said he issued a warning order to the Guard, meaning an initial step to increase preparations should troops be needed amid heightened tensions after Wednesday’s shooting.
“We are preparing the National Guard,” he said. “They are prepared to be deployed if necessary.”
The mood in Minneapolis became tense after an unidentified 37-year-old woman was shot while in her vehicle.
Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem said agents with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) were conducting an enforcement action when their vehicle got stuck in the snow.
As they were attempting to push the vehicle, she said, a woman “attacked them and those surrounding them” and “attempted to run them over and ram them with her vehicle.”
Holy crap… Gov. Tim Walz just said MN is at war with the government. Arrest him.
