JUST IN: Biden’s Letter To Trump Is Revealed
In a tradition that dates back decades, outgoing presidents leave a personal letter to their successor, offering words of wisdom, encouragement, and well wishes for the years ahead. Former President Joe Biden has followed suit, leaving a note for President Donald Trump as he prepares to return to the White House.
The letter contains Biden’s wishes for Trump’s success and for the nation’s continued prosperity. “As I take leave of this sacred office, I wish you and your family all the best in the next four years,” Biden wrote.
“The American people – and people around the world – look to this house for steadiness in the inevitable storms of history, and my prayer is that the coming years will be a time of prosperity, peace, and grace for our nation.” Biden concluded the letter with a call for divine guidance, writing, “May God bless you and guide you as He has blessed and guided our beloved country since our founding.”
The contents of the letter provide a contrast to the often contentious political rivalry between the two leaders. Biden’s presidency, marked by significant policy differences from Trump’s first term, saw deep divisions across the political spectrum.
On Monday, while signing a series of executive orders in the Oval Office in front of a crowd of journalists, President Trump was prompted by reporter Peter Doocy to check if former President Biden had left him a note.
At first unsure, Trump speculated, “He may have. Don’t they leave it in the desk? I don’t know,” before Peter Doocy’s suggestion led him to find a white envelope marked “47.”
“Thank you, Peter. It could have been years before we found this thing,” Trump said upon discovering the letter. The following day, Trump was asked by Doocy about what Biden had written.
“It was a very nice letter,” Trump said, describing the message as “a little bit of an inspirational-type letter. ‘Enjoy it, do a good job. Important, very important. How important the job is.’ It was a positive, for him, in writing it. I appreciated the letter.”
Biden’s note to Trump is reminiscent of similar letters written by past presidents, including the widely publicized letter from President Obama to Trump in 2017, which stressed the importance of American leadership and the responsibilities of the office. Biden said that Trump left him a “very generous letter” in 2021 but chose not to disclose its contents, considering it to be private.
