Joe Biden’s Abortion Capsule Coverage is Killing and Injuring Ladies

Joe Biden’s policy of loosening regulations on mifepristone has led to increased rates of serious injuries among women.

Those medical problems involve sepsis, infections and hemorrhaging – even death.

The research, coauthored by Ryan T. Anderson and Jamie Bryan Hall and published by the Ethics and Public Policy Center, found that 10.93% of women taking abortion pills experienced serious adverse events within 45 days of taking the abortion pill — more than 22 times the rate claimed on the FDA’s label of less than 0.5%.

Under Biden’s changes, the FDA removed the requirement for an in-person medical visit before prescribing or dispensing mifepristone, allowing remote prescriptions and mail-order delivery. This shift, initially justified by the COVID pandemic, has made the process significantly more dangerous, according to the study.

Serious adverse events, such as sepsis, infection and hemorrhaging, and death occurred at a rate of 10.15% when the in-person requirement was in place, rising to 11.50% after its removal — a statistically significant increase of 1.35 percentage points. That means thousands more women are suffering from major medical problems.

The rate of mifepristone prescriptions during ectopic pregnancies, a potentially life-threatening condition for the mother, also jumped from 0.27% to 0.41%, an increase of more than 50%. Without in-person exams, doctors cannot properly confirm fetal age, rule out ectopic pregnancies or ensure the woman’s consent is voluntary, heightening risks of coercion and misuse.

Without that, women die.

Other examples of harm include instances of coercive poisoning where boyfriends secretly administered the pills, leading to fetal death.

The policy has drawn sharp criticism from pro-life advocates and states, who argue it endangers women and undermines protections for the unborn.

In a related legal battle, 22 states have filed a brief supporting Louisiana’s lawsuit against the 2023 FDA action that eliminated these safeguards.

Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall, whose state joined the effort, called the rule “unlawful, plain and simple.” He added: “The Biden FDA eliminated critical safety safeguards, authorized the mailing of abortion drugs in direct conflict with federal law, and empowered out-of-state providers to violate the laws of pro-life States. After Dobbs returned abortion policy to the States, the Biden administration attempted to override that decision through executive action. We are standing with Louisiana to defend state sovereignty, enforce the law, and protect unborn life.”

The states involved include Alabama, Alaska, Arkansas, Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Carolina, South Dakota, Texas, Utah, West Virginia, Wyoming and Louisiana.

They contend the federal rule overrides their laws protecting life and burdens state health systems.

Pro-life groups have urged President-elect Donald Trump to reinstate the safety regulations upon taking office, arguing it would fulfill campaign promises to “Make America Healthy Again,” undo Biden-era policies and respect states’ rights on abortion.

A survey by McLaughlin and Associates found that 7 in 10 likely voters support requiring in-person doctor visits before prescribing abortion pills, and nearly 9 in 10 back updating drug labels to reflect actual risks.

The study underscores the risks of the current abortion pill regime, making a compelling case for restoring protections to save lives.
