Jessica Simpson and Eric Johnson Split After 10 Years of Marriage
Jessica Simpson and Eric Johnson have split after 10 years of marriage.
The “A Public Affair” singer, 44, confirmed that she and Eric, 46, have separated while speaking to People on Monday, January 13. “Eric and I have been living separately navigating a painful situation in our marriage,” she told the outlet. “Our children come first, and we are focusing on what is best for them. We are grateful for all of the love and support that has been coming our way, and appreciate privacy right now as we work through this as a family.”
The split comes after months of speculation that Jessica and Eric were headed for a divorce. The breakup rumors first circulated when the “Irresistible” singer was spotted without her wedding ring, and the speculation grew when she shared several cryptic posts on social media that seemingly alluded to the end of their relationship.
On November 11, 2024, Jessica left fans wondering if she was single after she shared a post on Instagram about her return to music. “Interviews in my Nashville music room where I unearthed my singular magic,” she captioned photos taken inside of her home. “This comeback is personal, it’s an apology to myself for putting up with everything I did not deserve.”
Shortly after Jessica uploaded the photos and caption, several fans rushed to the comments section to wonder if the cryptic caption was alluding to her and Eric’s suspected split.
“Is this J Simp saying she’s single?” one person commented, and another social media user directly replied, “I think so because she stopped posting about him a while ago and none of her pictures ever have a wedding ring.”
Another clue that Jessica and Eric were experiencing relationship troubles came when she noticeably didn’t post anything about his birthday in September 2024. Jessica only furthered the speculation when she confirmed that she was active on Instagram that same day by posting a cryptic video about forgiveness via her Instagram Stories.
“Forgiveness doesn’t change the person who hurt you. Are you listening to me?” a preacher said in the clip. “Forgiveness doesn’t change that person. Forgiveness changes you. Guess what forgiveness does not do? Forgiveness does not mean you forget. One of the most crazy theories is that you forgive and forget. You don’t forget, but you do have the opportunity to forgive every time you remember.”
Prior to the confirmation about their split, an insider exclusively told Life & Style that their marriage was basically over on November 12, 2024. “Jessica has been reevaluating her happiness, her marriage and her business empire, and she is ready to start fresh,” a source exclusively said at the time. “It’s pretty much over between her and Eric; it’s only a matter of time before she files for divorce.”
Despite not being able to make their marriage work, the insider insisted that Jessica and Eric did put effort in to save their relationship. “They tried couples counseling, which worked for a while, but then things went back to the way they were. They don’t spend nearly as much time together as they used to, and they’ve just grown apart,” the source shared.
The insider explained that Jessica and Eric experienced a major shift in their relationship when she got sober in 2017. “She’ll always be grateful, but she’s changed a lot of her thinking and priorities since then,” the source said. “Jess and Eric have had to have some really difficult conversations, including about pulling the plug on their relationship.”
The former couple – who tied the knot in 2014 – share children Maxwell, 12, Ace, 11, and Birdie, 5.
