Jennifer Hudson and Common Have ‘Been Talking Openly’ About Marriage

Jennifer Hudson and Common have been together since 2022 and they’re madly in love – with pals exclusively telling Life & Style that a wedding is definitely in the works for the smitten duo, and quite likely sooner rather than later.

“They’ve been talking openly about it for a while. For the past year it’s been Common dropping hints and her encouraging it,” the insider tells Life & Style. “It’s something they both seem to want, but Common has to be the one to take charge and do the asking. And he finally seems to be ready.”

The source says that Jennifer, 43, is “100 percent ready to say yes and marry him.”

“She adores him, they’re a great match. They just took a trip to San Francisco and had the best time,” the insider shares. “She was giddy getting ready for it, picking out the perfect outfits and all that. A lot of people were expecting that he might propose during the trip. It didn’t happen, but apparently he’s dropped enough hints to make everyone sure it’s going to happen soon.”

The source goes on to speculate that Common, 53, might be putting off the proposal until the perfect moment to ensure that it’s a special experience for both of them. “Of course he’s never been married, so it is a very big step for him,” the insider says. “And for Jennifer too, she’s been engaged but never married. It’s new territory for them both.”

The couple were friendly for years before they sparked dating rumors while working together on the film Breathe in 2022. Jennifer and Common were seen together during several public outings over the years before they seemingly confirmed their romance during his appearance on The Jennifer Hudson Show in January 2024.

While being interviewed by Jennifer, Common was asked about his relationship status. The Selma actor laughed before he confirmed that he was seeing someone. However, he did not explicitly reveal that the identity of his romantic partner was Jennifer. Despite playing coy with the answer, fans were able to catch on to their relationship when he gave Jennifer a large bouquet of flowers and kissed her on the cheek in photos shared by Warner Brothers.

After Common confirmed their relationship on his girlfriend’s daytime talk show, he explained why he finally wanted to publicly acknowledge their relationship during an interview on Today with Hoda & Jenna.

“We had a little fun,” Common said about the interview. “I felt like, why not just be loving and honest with who I am and who we are. And it felt good, it was fun, we had a good time.”

The Josh Wick: Chapter 2 actor also explained that he is a “very private” person when it comes to his personal life, noting that he likes to keep “things that are sacred” out of the spotlight.

The source reveals Jennifer and Common’s plans to wed after an additional insider told Life & Style that getting married is “something they both seem to want.”
