Israel Rejects South Africa`s Application To The International Court Of Justice Over Genocide In Gaza | Malaysia World News
Israel rejected the application that South Africa had submitted to the International Court of Justice, accusing it of crimes of genocide against Palestinians in Gaza.
Israel’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said South Africa`s claim “lacks both a factual and a legal basis.”
“Israel is committed to international law and acts in accordance with it, and directs its military efforts only against the Hamas terrorist organization and the other terrorist organizations cooperating with Hamas,” its statement said, as quoted by CNN.
South Africa filed a case against Israel at the International Court of Justice, accusing it of crimes of genocide against Palestinians in Gaza where more than 21,500 Palestinian people have been killed by the relentless Israeli bombardment since October 7.
In an application to the court on Friday, South Africa described Israel’s actions in Gaza as “genocidal in character because they are intended to bring about the destruction of a substantial part of the Palestinian national, racial and ethnical group”.
“The acts in question include killing Palestinians in Gaza, causing them serious bodily and mental harm, and inflicting on them conditions of life calculated to bring about their physical destruction,” the application said.
