Hunter Biden sues IRS claiming he was a ‘target’ of his father’s agency, agents tried to ’embarrass’ him

Hunter Biden had his attorneys file a lawsuit against the IRS on Monday, whining that two whistleblowers “targeted and sought to embarrass” him during an investigation into his alleged criminal activities.

The 27-page suit refers to IRS Agents Gary Shapley and Joseph Ziegler who testified under oath that the IRS mishandled aspects of the probe into Hunter Biden, according to Fox News.

The frivolous lawsuit wants the court to declare that the IRS “willfully, knowingly, and/or by gross negligence, unlawfully disclosed Mr. Biden’s confidential tax information.” It looks to be a move to intimidate the whistleblowers and Republicans.

Biden is demanding $1,000 in damages for “each and every unauthorized disclosure of his tax returns.” That would include any disclosures made after the fact.

“Biden is the son of the President of the United States. He has all the same responsibilities as any other American citizen, and the IRS can and should make certain that he abides by those responsibilities,” the lawsuit declared. “Similarly, Mr. Biden has no fewer or lesser rights than any other American citizen, and no government agency or government agent has free rein to violate his rights simply because of who he is.”

“Yet the IRS and its agents have conducted themselves under a presumption that the rights that apply to every other American citizen do not apply to Mr. Biden,” it goes on to charge.

The suit contends that Shapley and Ziegler “targeted and sought to embarrass” Hunter Biden when they spoke to the media. It goes on to assert that the two IRS agents are just the “most recent” example of the alleged persecution against him.

“Despite clear warnings from Congress that they were prohibited from disclosing the contents of their testimony to the public in another forum, Mr. Shapley and Mr. Ziegler’s testimony only emboldened their media campaign against Mr. Biden,” the lawsuit added.

“And finally, since their public testimony before the House of Representatives on July 19, 2023, the agents have become regular guests on national media outlets and have made new allegations and public statements regarding Mr. Biden’s confidential tax return information that were not previously included in their transcripts before the Committee on Ways and Means,” it continued.

“This assault on Mr. Biden’s rights involved the public disclosure of his confidential tax information during more than 20 nationally televised and non-congressionally sanctioned interviews and numerous public statements by Mr. Shapley, Mr. Ziegler, and their counsel in these public appearances,” Hunter Biden’s attorneys stated.

Misdemeanor tax charges were dismissed against Hunter Biden earlier this year. He has now been indicted on three federal gun charges.

Both Shapley and Ziegler alleged during testimony in front of the House Oversight Committee that they were blocked from fully investigating Hunter Biden.

The president’s son’s lawsuit asserts that the testimony from the whistleblowers “cannot and does not shield them from their wrongful conduct in making unauthorized public disclosures that are not permitted by the whistleblower process.”

“This lawsuit is not about the proper workings of the whistleblower statute and process, nor an official using those procedures properly to make disclosures to authorized government officials,” wrote Biden’s lawyer Abbe Lowell, according to The Wall Street Journal.

“Rather, the lawsuit is about the decision by IRS employees, their representatives, and others to disregard their obligations and repeatedly and intentionally publicly disclose and disseminate Mr. Biden’s protected tax return information outside the exceptions for making disclosures in the law,” Lowell commented.
