How to Turn Off Camera Sound on iPhone: 3 Ways

0

The iPhone camera shutter sound is pretty iconic and helpful in letting you know when you’ve successfully captured a photo. But there can be times, you don’t want to hear that sound, especially in a public place or when capturing wildlife. Here is how you can turn off the camera sound on your iPhone.

Turn off the Camera Sound on your iPhone

Before we begin, note that in certain countries, such as South Korea and Japan, local laws require your iPhone to always make a shutter sound. This is to prevent unauthorized photography and protect privacy. In these regions, there’s no official way to disable the shutter sound.

1. Turn on Silent Mode

If you aren’t in one of the aforementioned countries, the easiest way to mute the shutter sound is to enable silent mode. This silences all system sounds, including the camera shutter.

On newer iPhones, long-press the Action Button to toggle between ring and silent mode. For older models with a mute switch, simply flip the switch to silent.

2. Enable Live Photos

Live Photos are a fantastic way to capture both a still image and a short video clip of a moment. Fortunately, when Live Photos is enabled, your iPhone automatically disables the shutter sound to preserve the video’s audio. Here is how you can enable it:

Open the Camera app on your iPhone.

Tap the Live Photo icon at the screen’s top right corner.

3. Lower System Volume

If you don’t want to put your iPhone on silent and miss important calls, lowering the system volume turns off the camera sound as well. Here is how you can do it:

Swipe down from the top-right corner to open Control Center.

Drag the volume slider all the way down.

Conclusion

That’s it—three easy ways to turn off your iPhone’s camera sound. Now, you don’t have to worry about using your camera in public or capturing precious moments of a sleeping baby without disturbing anyone.
