Hershey’s is airing an advertisement featuring a biological male who identifies as a woman, in celebration of International Women’s Day.

Fae Johnstone, a “2SLGBTQIA+” transgender “woman” is featured in the ad airing nationwide in Canada. “Limited-edition Hershey’s SHE bars will be available nationwide in four unique wrappers in both a 1.55-ounce standard bar and a 4.4-ounce XL bar, while supplies last,” Pennsylvania’s Fox 43 reports.

“My name is Fae Johnstone, I’m the executive director of ‘Wisdom to Action.’ We can create a world where everyone is able to live in public space as their honest and authentic selves,” Johnstone declares in the ad.

The biological male is a Young Women’s Christian Association (YWCA) board in Canada, Hershey notes:

“A member of YWCA Canada’s Board of Directors, Fae is a leading voice in the conversation around Canada’s 2SLGBTQIA+ issues, advocating for transgender rights and banning conversion practices. In 2019, she received the LGBT Youth Line’s Trans Activism award.

“Dedicated to making the 2SLGBTQIA+ community seen and heard, she leads Wisdom2Action Consulting Ltd., a social enterprise and consulting firm offering ways for nonprofits and organizations to build more inclusive, just, healthy, and safe communities.”

“This year’s HER for SHE initiative spotlights five Canadian women working to build a better future through their passion, activism, and work in their communities,” Hershey explains in a press release describing the four biological women and Johnstone featured in the ad.

The five women in the ad each check a box for at least one liberal cause, ranging from gender ideology to “indigenous rights and water” activism, according to the release:

  • Autumn Peltier, Indigenous Rights and Water Activist;
  • Fae Johnstone, 2SLGBTQIA+ Advocate;
  • Rita Audi, Gender and Education Equality Activist;
  • Naila Moloo, Climate Tech Researcher; and
  • Kélicia Massala, founder of Girl Up Québec (nonbinary activism).
