‘Good riddance’: Pentagon officials reportedly pleased about Tucker Carlson-Fox News split
Fox News Media announced on Monday that the network and Tucker Carlson had “agreed to part ways,” and according to Politico, there are Defense Department officials who are pleased by the split.
Without divulging their identities, the outlet quoted two defense department officials.
“We’re a better country without him bagging on our military every night in front of hundreds of thousands of people,” a senior defense department official said, according to Politico. That person also claimed that Carlson “repeatedly cherry-picked department policies and used them to destroy DoD as an institution,” according to the outlet.
“Good riddance,” another defense department official reportedly said.
Politico reported that when asked to respond to the news that Pentagon officials are pleased by his split from Fox News, Carlson wrote via text, “Ha! I’m sure.”
In the wake of Fox News Media’s announcement on Monday, many people took to Twitter to declare that they had canceled their Fox Nation subscriptions.
People have also shared personal stories about Tucker Carlson — radio host Larry O’Connor recalled that Carlson had invited him to Thanksgiving dinner at a time when he otherwise would have had a “lonely” holiday.
Fox News Channel senior meteorologist Janice Dean wrote of Carlson that “there are countess stories of him helping his friends quietly, behind the scenes and away from the spotlight.”
Carlson had apparently expected to return to the air on Monday, because on Friday’s episode of his primetime Fox News Channel show he had said, “We’ll be back on Monday.”
But in the press release on Monday, Fox News Media announced that “Carlson’s last program was Friday April 21st. Fox News Tonight will air live at 8 PM/ET starting this evening as an interim show helmed by rotating FOX News personalities until a new host is named.”
