Golden Knights Agree to Terms with Keegan Kolesar on Three-Year Extension

Tonight the Vegas Golden Knights announced that they signed Keegan Kolesar to a three-year contract extension.

Per the team’s release:

Kolesar recorded career-highs in games played (77), goals (7), assists (17) and points (24) during the 2021-22 campaign. His 246 hits through the season were also a career-best and ranked 10th among all skaters in the NHL. The forward has skated in a total of 122 games, all with Vegas, across three years in the League.

His contract comes with a cap hit of $1,400,000 per season, and per Cap Friendly, Vegas currently sits over the cap by $2,794,643. The team still has to agree to terms with RFAs Nicolas Roy and Nic Hague, and there are a few players to activate off LTIR.

In any case, there’s still work for General Manager Kelly McCrimmon to do, and it will be interesting to see what he does. A number of teams in the NHL are either at or near the cap threshold, so it isn’t going to be as simple as dumping another contract to a team.

The good news is that it is only August 5, and there’s still a lot of time to find a solution.
