Germany Accuses Elon Musk of Meddling with Their Election by Supporting Far-Right Party
German officials have accused Tesla CEO Elon Musk of trying to influence the country’s upcoming election by supporting the country’s far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) party.
Musk has become increasingly involved in politics following his endorsement of President-elect Donald Trump and support of the United Kingdom’s Reform UK party earlier this month.
In an opinion piece for Germany’s Welt am Sonntag newspaper, Musk praised the AfD as the only party that can “save Germany.”
However, a German government spokesperson said Musk was l trying to meddle with the election through his posts on X and his opinion piece.
“It is indeed the case that Elon Musk is trying to influence the federal election,” the spokesperson said.
He added that Musk is free to express his opinion because “after all, freedom of opinion also covers the greatest nonsense.”

The Space X CEO responded by stating he had “significant investments” in the country, finding that the AfD had the best approach to taxes and regulations.
The AfD party is currently polling second, behind main opposition conservatives.
Meanwhile, some German politicians slammed Musk’s comments.
Lars Klingbeil, the co-leader of the Social Democrats party, compared Musk to Russian President Vladimir Putin.
“Both want to influence our elections and specifically support the AfD’s enemies of democracy,” Klingbeil said.
“They want Germany to be weakened and plunged into chaos.”
Earlier this month, Musk told Italy to stay away from the Woke Mind Virus, adding that he was sure Germany would ban its citizens from seeing it.
“Please don’t import the woke mind virus. The woke mind virus, it consists of creating very divisive identity politics.”
“In my view, it amplifies racism, amplifies sexism and all the isms.”
“And while claiming to do the opposite, it actually divides people and makes them sort of hate each other, and it makes people hate themselves.”
