Fulton DA Pushes Again On $17 Million Authorized Charge Claims From Trump, Former Co-Defendants – Journal Posts
Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis filed Wednesday opposing President Trump and his former co-defendants’ efforts to recover nearly $17 million in legal fees after the collapse of her 2020 election interference case, warning the payouts could consume her office’s budget.
Willis told Fulton County Superior Court her office will not let taxpayers cover what she called an “absurd amount,” warning the total—Trump’s $6.2 million plus other defendants’ claims—could reach $17 million, potentially consuming her budget.
The claims are based on a Georgia law allowing defendants to seek legal cost reimbursement if the DA is disqualified. Willis was removed after courts found her relationship with special prosecutor Nathan Wade created an “appearance of impropriety” and an “odor of mendacity,” and the Georgia Supreme Court declined her appeal. Skandalakis’ office took over and moved to dismiss all charges, which Judge Scott McAfee granted the day before Thanksgiving.
