Former MLB Star Turns on Trump Over Iran War Threat: “I Will No Longer Support Him”
Former shortstop for the Cincinnati Reds and Los Angeles Angels, Zack Cozart, who was a high-profile supporter of President Donald Trump during the 2024 presidential campaign, had some stark words amid the tension between Iran and Israel.
Cozart has appeared to have pulled his support for Trump after the president advised Iranians to evacuate Tehran as the tension between Iran and Israel continues to grow and become more violent.
In a post on X, Cozart said:
“If Trump gets us in a war, I will no longer support him, and I’m sure most of you know I love Trump.”
Trump left the G7 summit Monday night due to the warfare going on between Iran and Israel.
The president also requested a meeting in the situation room with the National Security Council for when he got back, according to Fox News.
President Donald Trump has declared that Iran “cannot have a nuclear weapon” and that people should evacuate Tehran immediately.
Trump issued his decree days after Israel launched its attack on Iran by bombing key military sites.
The president also urged people to evacuate Tehran.
The President wrote on Truth Social:
“Iran should have signed the ‘deal’ I told them to sign.
What a shame, and waste of human life.
Simply stated, IRAN CAN NOT HAVE A NUCLEAR WEAPON.
I said it over and over again! Everyone should immediately evacuate Tehran!”
Trump also rejected “the G7’s proposed statement on Iran because it called for monitoring of Iran’s nuclear activities, rather than an outright halt to Iran’s program of nuclear enrichment”:
“The Trump administration has been demanding that Iran halt all uranium enrichment, since enrichment past a certain level has no purpose other than developing the unique isotope necessary for nuclear weapons.
Iran has refused to agree, leading to the impasse in nuclear talks — and leading Israel to attack Iran last Friday rather than face the prospect of an imminent Iranian nuclear weapon.”
Zack Cozart’s response to Trump’s aggressive stance on Iran reflects a growing unease among some of the president’s once-loyal base, as the situation in the Middle East continues to escalate.
