FACT CHECK: Was a Tourist Really Denied Entry Into U.S. Over a JD Vance Meme? | JP
Last week, the media became enraged after a Norwegian tourist claimed he was denied entry into the United States for a very odd reason.
According to 21-year-old Mads Mikkelsen, Border Patrol stopped him from entering the U.S. after they found a (very ugly) meme of JD Vance on his phone.
Here’s the meme in question:

I guess the left’s use of memes have devolved to simply trying to make their opposition look ugly and silly with bad photo edits.
They never were very good at memes, were they?
Anyways, the man’s claim quickly sparked outrage over free speech rights.

It is a bit ironic that this guy, who apparently is not a fan of America’s leadership, wants to come on vacation here.
If America is so bad, why does he want to come at all?
Daily Mail covered the story:
Mads Mikkelsen, 21, was sent away after arriving at New Jersey‘s Newark Airport on June 11 for a holiday.
He told Norwegian outlet Nordlys that he had been pulled aside by border control and put in a cell.
‘They asked questions about drug trafficking, terrorist plots and right-wing extremism totally without reason,’ he alleged in an interview with the outlet.
Mr Mikkelsen claimed that the officers then threatened him with a $5,000 fine or five years in prison if he refused to give the password to his mobile phone.
The guards were said to have found a meme on the device’s camera roll showing an edit of US vice president JD Vance with a bald, egg-shaped head. Mikkelsen said after discovering the image the authorities sent him home to Norway the same day.
Still, having a stupid meme that makes a political leader look silly on your phone certainly shouldn’t be a reason to get kicked out.
If that were truly the only reason Border Patrol didn’t let Mikkelsen enter the U.S., it would be problematic.
But, if this story sounds a little sensational to you…it’s because it is.
What Mikkelsen, conveniently forgot to mention is that he is also a drug user and that Border Patrol did not let him enter because of his admission to drug use.

Fact Check: FALSE

Apparently, Mikkelsen didn’t think it was relevant to mention that fact.
Nordlys reported:
When Mikkelsen woke up on Wednesday morning, he had 40 missed calls on his phone. Numerous media outlets were seeking his reaction to the CBP’s statement.
He told the Norwegian newspaper Nordlys that he was questioned at the airport about illegal drug use.
He admitted to having used cannabis on two occasions — in Germany and in New Mexico.
– It’s legal in both places, so in my mind it was irrelevant, he said.
Mikkelsen says he is unaware of the U.S. statement on X and has no intention of joining the platform to read it. Still, he finds it hard to believe the U.S. claims he was denied entry due to drug use.
– It’s a legal substance where it was taken – just like alcohol.
Another fake news story implodes.
Shameful.
