Elizabeth Warren confirms Zohran Mamdani’s message is the ‘Democratic message’

Senator Elizabeth Warren joined New York City mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani on WHEN, saying that the candidate’s socialist platform is the “Democratic message.” 

“When someone stands up and says, I will lead this city by making it more affordable, and here are my plans, real plans, plans to deliver on childcare, plans to deliver on housing, plans to deliver—we’re gonna experiment. We’re gonna try things on groceries. That is the Democratic message.”

Warren joined Mamdani at the DC37 union building to express support for his universal childcare proposal, per the New York Post. 

“For me, New York City is the place to start the conversation for Democrats on how affordability is the central issue, the central reason to be a Democrat, and that delivering on it in meaningful, tangible ways that will touch working families is why we’re here.”

This comes as recent polling has shown Democratic voters are unsatisfied with their party. An AP-NORC poll released on Sunday revealed that just 23 percent of Democrats described their party with positive terms. In contrast, 35 percent used negative terms such as “weak,” “tepid,” “apathetic,” “ineffective,” and “broken” to describe their party. 

Mamdani still has yet to receive endorsements from high-ranking Democrats like Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, who are both New Yorkers. 

Late night host Bill Maher issued a warning to the Democratic Party during his show recently, saying, “Are you on the side of Western civilization and Western values or are you on the side of the terrorists? Are you with those kids? Because Mamdani, he’s the perfect candidate for them.” He said earlier in the episode, “There’s a lot of opposition [to Mamdani] because we’ve never had someone this radical. Some of the things he says, you know he quotes Marxists, ‘each according to their need.’ I mean, that’s straight-up communism.”
